tama yung sinabi ni wowiesy na settings (at least ganyan pag dial-up connection yung shared, pero pareho lang ata pag broadband... hindi ko lang sure kung full functionality yung internet access sa both PC's with this kind of sharing)

TCP/IP settings for the LAN connection for the server should be: IP address: 192.168.0.1; subnet mask: 255.255.255.0; gateway should be left blank

TCP/IP settings for the LAN connection for the client should be: IP address: 192.168.0.2 (or 192.168.0.x); subnet mask: 255.255.255.0; gateway: 192.168.0.1; DNS server: 192.168.0.1

finally, enable internet connection sharing on the broadband connection on the server

check mo kung gumagana yung network connection by running (or sa command prompt) "ping 192.168.0.2" sa server; o kaya "ping 192.168.0.1" sa client. you should get responses

Yup, that's true, a router will do the job. In our office, I configured a four port router to 4 PC's, and yes they all access the internet. The procedure to configure the router is already bundled in the installation disk of the router. Easy steps.

    I agree with wowiesy.
DSL router is easier altough not cheaper,
pero you wont put pressure in your PC1 dahil they function individually.
meron kaming wireless lan/router before and 5 kaming gumagamit even inside the room, kitchen or out in the garden.

if you are planning to buy a laptop.. get a DSL wifi router na lang para mas okay..

in the absence of a router, download ka nalang ng internet sharing software (winroute, wingate, etc) - these softwares usually comes with their own firewall / antivirus and/or filtering functions - so para kang naka 2in or even 3in1 - mey router kana, mey antivirus kapa, meron ka pa ring filtering/firewall.... (sa greenhills meron atang cracked version)

most of these softwares are easy to install tapos auto detect narin lahat ng kakabit sa PC1/internet server.

Using one of your PCs as the router using software is the least expensive method. It does have disadvantages though, mainly less reliable because:

    1. The router PC always has to be on. If this PC is often on most of the time it isn't a big deal, but when you don't use it a lot it just consumes more electricity.

    2. PC 1 crashes, the entire network's Internet connection goes down.

    3. Network performance might be bottlenecked by the router PC if it's under heavy load, but most of the time this isn't the case.

kung more than two pcs, get a hub, a 4-port hub...

UTP cables can usually handle a good distance of 100 meters max, beyond that mey possibility na ma lost signal na. kung ganon talaga kalayo yung i-kokonect mo, coax cable na sagot dun! (layo namang kuarto nun!)

na ayos ko na network connections dito. using a D-Link router. everything's ok, internet and file sharing.

nag transfer ako ng around 4GB of MP3s to the other PC, ang bilis! pero bakit dun sa counter ng network connection e ilan mb lang ang na transfer?

either way kailangan talaga maglatag ng cable dyan... you have a host of options:

dun sa 2 magkatabing room.. you can use wifi... or copper cable (cat5 utp).... but from this room (w/ 2 PCs) up to the other 2 PCs sa upper floor.. kailangan talaga mag latag ng cable.. 1 each to the room with 2 PCs.. dun mo na i setup yung hub, pati na yung DSL modem (if you're using one)...

    olrayt!! congrats!!!

    1. some ports of the switch gets busted.. still couldn't trace why this is so..
    2. sobrang bagal ng bandwitdth... sometimes i trace this to a heavy user in our network.. but minsan i find out na nagloloko ang router.. i just switch it off (24 port switch, dsl modem and dsl router) and after about 2 mins eh on uli.. okay na...
    3. particular clients complain of not having internet access from time to time... minsan ginagalaw ko lang yung cable ... although not sure talaga bakit ganito minsan...
