if you're looking for very good AV receivers, i suggest you do some research and find models which are certified to supply equal, true continouous power to all channels in demand....

most of the models out in the market are not capable of doing this... these models claim that their amps can supply high wattage (100++ watts) of equal power to all channels... but in reality, this only happens mostly for the front channels...

the situation worsens when there is a need for all channels to be driven at high levels... the fronts drop down to 70-80 watts (out of 100++) and the surrounds even worse to about 35-40 watts only...

so how will you know that the receiver is capable of supplying equal, true continuous power to all channels in demand?

look for reviews of AVRs in reputable HT hardware sites in the net...

    yung harman continuous power
many models can claim continuous power but the drop off in wattage when all channels are driven could be quite considerable...

say an AVR claims 105 watts of equal, continuous power to all channels... but it turns out that this figure drops down to 50-60 watts to each channel when all channels are driven to high levels...

majority of continuous power AVRs experience drop offs of this nature especially in demanding situations... some models have more or less depending on their claimed specs.. so, it's just a matter of how honest the manufacturer of the AVR is in stating the true capabilities of their product...

hmm... don't want to sound as a KJ but yamaha AVRs are commonly one of those that experience these substantial drop-offs... that figure could be much lower... but who knows maybe your model may be different...

also owned a yamaha AVR b4 but decided to change to a NAD AVR...

yep, Monitor audio speakers are very good...

there is always a compromise/trade-off between a system geared primarily towards HT or Audio... that's why if you can afford to do so, have them both separately...

if not, then I guess you have to choose what is your priority... you simply can't have both in one system and think that system can excel in either case... At most, it will perform adequately or less in both areas...
