    Greetings Gents and I.T. experts.

Need your recommendations as to which pocket wifi device/service would be better in terms of bandwidth, reliable connectivity and value (i.e. price). Will use it when I'm traveling to places outside of Manila i.e. Subic, Batangas, Cebu.

Mga mods, please merge nalang if there's an existing thread. I tried the search function and couldn't find any.

    Thanks, fellas.

If you have a smartphone (with 3G), you might want to try that first before buying a stand-alone pocket wifi or USB internet stick.

For iPhone and Android phones, there are apps to share (via wifi) your 3G connection (in the same way as a pocket wifi device). For Nokia and other symbian S60 based phones, you can use JoikuSpot app (free & paid versions available) to do the same.

Also, you can also connect your phone to your notebook PC using it's software to get internet connection similar to a USB internet stick.

Advantage of doing this, one less device to carry with you.

Hi GH. I can probably try that. I have a Samsung Galaxy (entry level) smartphone which uses android 2.1 but I can't seem to find the settings to get it to share a wifi signal. Is it an app that has to be downloaded before the wifi can be activated?

Not sure if its same with LG Optimus One. Go to Settings>Wireless and Network> Tethering and Portable Hotspot> USB Tethering.

would like to get the opinion of the IT experts here in tsikot.

i saw may press release ang smart regarding LTE-A. Matagal pa ba mangyari ang LTE-A sa atin?

I am thinking of getting LTE pocket wifi sana. but not sure if i should wait for LTE-A.

Data na lang tapos hot spot if kailangan i-share. Tho kami meron pa rin kaming pocket wifi na backup kung kailanganin.

A spare Android phone could act as a hotspot. Put in a GOMO sim.

That's what I bring when we stay in hotels and Airbnb. It provides hotspot for the security camera I leave in the room to look over our stuff (only if I can't use the hotel's WiFi).

A spare Wyze Cam v2. But any small USB-powered WiFi camera should suffice.

Before we leave the room, I set it up to start recording to an SD card and the cloud whenever it detects movement. So even if they somehow find, deactivate, or steal the camera, there's a very good chance the perp can still be identified using the copy on the cloud.

I have a problem. My Uncle and Auntie from the US are here on vacation. Their phones are locked sa provider nila (verizon ata) so they can't use a local sim

How can they have wifi or data using their phone? Or is it better to buy a super cheap smart phone na lang? Meron ba na P2k lang hahaha

Get a pocket wifi for them or just get a cheap phone for them and a local sim.

Before the pandemic and when my phone was still locked, I use services like these when traveling abroad. I just order online ahead of my arrival date and pickup the hotspot at the airport on my arrival. On my flight home, I just dropped it off at the same kiosk in the airport. You just need to arrive early as the kiosk is often located nearer to the arrival gates.

Later on, I was ordering prepaid SIM cards which I still have to pickup at the airport, but just throw away after the trip.

Now, eSIMs are king. Nothing to pickup or return. Just order online, install it, and it's ready to use once you land.

you can download Apps like Airalo or Ubigi.
They will activate an esim fro you depending on what country you are in.
no need to go to any stores to buy esim.
i have used them and it works well naman.
