HELP! Need ECS K7VTA3 Motherboard

Don't buy ECS Mobo hindi maasahan yan. Get Intel or Asus Mobo for Intel processor. Kung AMD processor naman MSI naman kunin mong mobo.

di rin maasahan ang Asus, no! My former motherboard was a P4P800-E Deluxe Wireless Edition. It had the Intel 865PE chipset, fully loaded, top of the line pati yung price two years ago, top of the line din at Php 7,8xx.xx! Guess what? It conked out last week and the shop that I took it to said it was quite common for recent Asus MB like mine to conk for no reason.

If you want to give AMD a try, you can try the Sempron in socket 754.

Btw, what speed is your DDR ram? DDR266? DDR333? DDR400?

Napakamalas mo naman sa Asus dati kasi Asus mobo gamit namin sa shop nagtagal naman ng 3 years ang nasisira kasi sa asus pag nagtagal yung mga port nya pero nung nasubukan namin MSI mobo+AMD processor nag-stick na kami sa MSI matibay talaga pati video card MSI din gamit namin. Yung isang P4 ko yung MSI 865PE-Neo2 Platinum Series nilagay kong mobo so far ok na ok napakabilis talaga.

I agree. Kasing level ng Sempron ang Pentium 4 sa performance... Celerons are not even considered in Benchmark Tests... palaging Pentium, Semprons at Athlon ang comparison...

Buying a new microprocessor/motherboard combo might require you to upgrade your video card, power supply, memory.

I agree that MSI is a better brand right now. A lot of the ECS boards are not lasting more than 2 years in our office computers. ASUS used to be the best brand but it is not really worth the premium price that they charge for comparable boards for other brands.

Asus & Gigabyte will be merging or having a joint venture... I'm leaning on Foxconn right now... they are experts in making motherboard components and decided to have their own motherboard business also...

Reason why Asus boards conk out is due to them tweaking/overclocking components... results are very good performance but they won't last... But they offer a 3 year warranty so check out stickers on the board and you will get some picture of your item is still under warranty.

Kung PCI-E ang board obligado syang mag-upgrade pero kung AGP magagamit pa nya yung dating video card; memory etc. yung processor at board na lang papalitan.

Yung AMD ko ay EPOX ang gamit ko... pero para sakin .. OK ang DFI sa AMD boards. Gumamit na din ako ng MSI... OK naman sya... pero whenever I use Pentium ... talagang INTEL board lang ang gamit ko.... matibay talaga sya.

andaling nasira ang Epox na binili ko 1 year 2 months lang sira na yung dalawa buti na lang may stock pang socket A kaya ngayon puro MSI na binibili ko.

It ok to mix different memories together, but not really advisable unless really necessary. Incompatible memory modules can cause the "deadly blue screen" on Windows, hanging of the OS, or sluggish performance. To avoid headaches, try checking their compatibility with each other using MEMTEST - free download from the net.

Dont worry about Dual Memory Channels because Sempron and Athlon 64 in socket 754 are only capable of single memory channel.

In most benchmarks, Semprons would outpace the Celerons. The Net burst architecture Celerons are more superior when it comes to encoding MP3s and DiVx files, etc... Even so, that would mean the Sempron is only a few seconds slower. The Sempron is still the best all around performer when compared to any Celeron.

Asus MB of the olden days are bullet-proof. I have a '99 P2B-F and upto now, it is still running. This board has been running on a daily basis since its purchase. Also bought an untested second hand P3B-F two years ago, which still works perfectly to this day. It is also used on a daily basis.

The shops that I talked to, said that modern Asus esp. the A.I. series, are more prone to breaking down. They had a customer who has gone through two motherboards until he ran out of warranty. IMO, Asus is really overrated with such their selling price and spotty quality.

Not necessarily, if the thread starter buys a Sempron/socket 754 MB combo. He has memory modules already. He can buy a MB with integrated video built in so he does not need to buy a video card or he can use his AGP card if the MB has an AGP slot. The Sempron does not come to anything close to power hungry Pentiums and if he ever needs a new power supply, it will cost him less than a thousand bucks only.

This is quite a mixed bag to it. Given ECS' dirt low price, it is not surprising for people to have a low expectation of its longevity. But recently, the company has been trying to up its reputation. I wonder how will the current ECS fare in terms of years in service.

I never tweaked my motherboard. I think its an inherrent thing with Asus. There are lots of horror tales of Asus MB conking out all over the net. Search this on the net: system test cpu failed.

It must have gotten so bad that Asus needed to inject some confidence in their products by offering a three year warranty. It is similar in the automotive industry, where supposedly lowly brands like Hyundai gives a 10 years warranty for their powertrain while GM gives 5 years and the top dog, Toyota, only gives regular warranty.

I'm assuming you are connecting to the Internet through LAN via Router via modem (cable or DSL).

Is this the first time the Duron computer to be connected to the network?

Try this click, start -->network connections. Upon clicking, a new window will appear. There should be two icons (if you use Windows XP SP2). "Internet Connection" and "Local Area Connection". Click on the "Local Area Connection". Under the "support" tab, it shoud say "address type: assigned by DHCP"
