While I plan to upgrade/repair my current pc, my wife's pretty insistent I replace it with a laptop. She wanted to buy an $850 Toshiba with an ATI HD 4500 graphics. I said no thanks.
On the other hand, we went to Best Buy earlier and they were selling an ASUS G51 for $1k. If I have to go with a laptop, the ASUS G51 seems good enough for me short of going with a more expensive laptop that has two SLI'd GTX 260M's. It also costs just a bit more than the current Toshiba I have now:
Core 2 Duo 2.0 ghz
15.6" WXGA
4gb DDR2 ram
320gb SATA 7200rpm hard drive
DL DVDRW Drive
1gb nVidia GeForce GTX 260M
Wireless B G N
Webcam
1xR-J45 10/100, 1xFirewire, 1xHDMI, digital media reader
Vista Home Premium 64-bit SP1 with free upgrade to Windows 7
Illuminated keyboard
