    For any netbook, I would suggest you look for one with a SIX cell battery and not the basic THREE cell battery because six cell battery will give it a more useful battery time of usually 4 to 5 hours. Three cell battery typically gives 1.5 to 3 hours only.

    Alternative is the MSi Wind U100 series of netbooks. Typical colors are black and white although there are a few pink units. Prices start at P15,500 for the basic unit with 3-cell battery 160gb, 1gb, 10"LCD.

    Moving up in budget, the Lenovo S-10 is a good netbook. Priced at P18k to P19K with six cell battery, 160gb, 1gb, 10in LCD. In fact I bought my niece one of these slightly over a year ago. There is a newer Lenovo S10-2 but general specs are still similar to the older model.

    Asus 1005HA, with it's "seashell" design, is a nice choice. Sold at P16,300 cash at PC-Corner. Although specified with a three-cell battery, the Asus 1005HA can get four hours or slightly more due to power efficient system. The unit can get eight hours from it's six cell battery.

    If you still want to buy from a store than from the 2nd hand market, your alternative would be to check the smaller stores around the city like in V-Mall, Greenhills and Cyberzone at SM megamall.

    Yup,- that's the reason why we recently bought an ACER AOD250-1727. For our kid going into 4th year HS....

    Consider only the 11.6 inch models. 10 inch models suck.

    Just take note that each of the netbook I posted have different pros and cons.

    EEE PC 1005 Seashell has very good battery endurance for average netbook specs with wifi-N spec. Stylish exterior for a netbook.

    E-machine 250 is a bang for the buck netbook. Nothing extra ordinary.

    Asus U135 or U160 have newer Atom processors and very stylish exterior. But performance is still rather not that much improved. Battery life, not that sure myself but supposedly better than older Atom N270 spec netbooks like the U100.

    Personally, you can't go wrong with the EEE1005HA but each person has their own taste in style.

    There is an electronics/gadgets sale today at the Auditorium of the Tektite Bldg in Ortigas. My wife brought a brochure home and I saw that Asus 1000HE and 1005HA (not sure about this model) sells for 15,000. I'd say these are really good deals. I got my 1000HE a few months back for 18K sa greenhills.

    You might want to consider Apple iPad.

    For a netbook, I noticed that those with AMD and ATI are way faster than Intels. I think there are intels with Nvidia 9400M so it should be better than the intel graphics (which is crap).

    I wouldn't put too much demand on the newer Atom N450 chip as being "faster" than the older N270/N280 chips.

    Benchmark:

    N450 = 321
    N270 = 305

    http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_look...50+%40+1.66GHz

    The only advantage it would give is less power consumption and slightly faster graphics.

    If you want a faster netbook, look beyond Intel Atom cpu powered netbooks.

    the iPad is an expensive piece of eyecandy which needs another US$200 worth of accessories to make it even near to practical. Among these, the external keyboard and the iPad "stand".

    The iPad is great for viewing media but poor if you have to do any sort of keyboard input or any "real" work like a spreadsheet or a document.

    I suggest the MSi Wind12 U200/u210x/U230 netbooks as potential choices.
