But with the wire antenna it comes with, so far I can tune in on some shortwave stations from China with ease.

For those who doesn't know, on certain times of the day and certain seasons of the year, conditions are right for shortwave/HF radio to 'skip' between the earth and the ionosphere (also known as skywave) allowing it to travel thousands of kilometers without line-of-sight.

Runs on 4xAA batteries. Pretty neat little thing for preppers.

OT: This thread sorta revived my interest on amateur radio. I operated on the 2-meter ham band (144-148MHz) back in the day. Ham radio has become less relevant now mainly because of the Internet, but it has been proven crucial in the coordination of relief during calamities, like in the weeks after Yolanda struck.

Sir, where did you buy the Tecsun radio? Does it have its own antenna?

i'm looking to buy the Eton FRX3, very versatile in terms of power sources. Ganda rin ng presyo :p

Apparently me gateway na pala between HAM radio and internet? Very cool ^_^ LINK

Not sure how active the local HAM/CB radio groups are, but it seems the ones in the US went into high gear when hurricane Katrina hit.
