I've got screen tearing problems when viewing 720p videos on VLC.
something like this:
(the top of Rock's head looks chopped off)
I've change VLC's video output settings to Direct X video output and it helped a bit. but the problem still persists sometimes. The problem also occurs when I output the video via hdmi on my HDTV.
I gonna give COREAVC a try, I hope this solves the problem.

Anyone tried klite? Am currently using it and so far, I have not encountered any issue...

So far... it's merely one set of MKVs I'm having a problem with... my copy of Blood the Last Vampire, which used to run like crap on my Netbook now runs ultra-smooth... thanks, GH! Going to be trying other problematic MKVs, like the Macross Frontier set, next.
