Hello techheads. Nope we are not talking phones from smart but rather these smart phones with the symbian (is that how it is spelled) thing etc.

Do you make the most of its capabilities and how? Kasi most are just into phones for texting and talking...and maybe taking a pic or two. what will a smartphone do or can do to help an individual.

Obviously i am not as tech savvy and would like to know so i dont mistakenlt get too much phone for my needs.

i myself am guilty of not fully utilizing a "smart phones" features. i honestly use lang the calendar and appoinments and reminders thingie thats it. i hvae owned a couple of these smart phones (i guess im a gadget junkie) i have never used my new phones WiFi capability coz i also carry around my laptop(sometimes) with mobile broadband. ive never used the blackberry capability either. pictures lang and high memory capacity ang habol ko? hehehe i think when you get used to owning or using a smart phone parang using a "regular"(if i may say) feels different.

    just my 2 cents

    Call
    Text
    Internet Access
    Email (Blackberry)
    Computer applications (Excel & Word)
    Fax (send & receive)
    Reading novels
    Calculator
    Alarm Clock

    Voice Recording
    Taking Notes
    Reminders (Appointment/Birthdays/Tasks)

    Address Book

    It's very useful for me.

So i take it that blackberry is that push email thing? pardon my lack of knowledge in the subject and that is why i am trying to keep myself up to speed on it. and when you say take notes..like a pad or notebook? can you actually write on them? is their handwriting recognition?

can they truly replace basic laptop usage? kasi most people use naman laptops for email, internet, data storage and documents. unlike when other specialists use them for retouching. basic video editing. etc.

I disagree. In my line of work, i almost need a PDA, so this in-between situation is where symbian phones fall in. I loaded my n6681 with useful on-the-go apps like a dictionary, .doc and .pdf readers, a couple of eBooks, some funky games like TextTwist and NES emulators, a third-party media player- very handy stuff. Of course, for people who want more power, a full-fledged PDA or a notebook might be better. But certainly, s60 phones have their own place, too.

iba pa rin ang laptop especially with its larger screen. but for basic functions like spreadsheets, documents, emails, appointments and contacts, sobra sobra naman na ang laptop para sa mga yan.

what would the average professional use the laptop for that a desktop cannot perform kaya? Kasi sometimes honestly yes maganda nga ang laptop kasi better screen but i see a lot on it who will only make their word doc and other basic office stuff plus check e mail and the net. Diba mas maganda in the future if desktops are docking stations and handheld na ang what laptops are at the moment for your average biz person? is that what smartphones are trying to do kaya? of course to make presentations one or two laptops would be necessary sa office for portability which a desktop really cant achieve?

just wondering kasi parang underused ibang laptops at some biznesses

smartfones are trying and have overcome the advantages of having a PDA. Most smartfones today have PDA type functions and some more features. Still a negative thing about smartfones acting like PDAs is the smaller screen and the general lack of touchscreen functionality (except for certain smartfone models).

As for using a laptop instead of a desktop unit in the office, it depends on the requirements of the company. Some companies do not have a fixed table for their employees so ability to setup on any table/workspace is a priority. Others require their employees to work in different locations around the city. Others just prefer the idea that the entire computer can be secured by placing it in a big locked safe along with all the sensitive data inside it. And other companies see the savings in power and table space as a big plus to using laptops instead of desktop units.

When I first got it I used them almost everyday.

Now I only use it for pix, internet access and notes.

Currently have the N70 which replaced my SE P910i. Thinking of upgrading again to an SE P990.

    sa'kin:

    call/text
    e-mail with attachments from word/excel/pdf
    word/excel editor
    pdf reader
    to-do list
    calendar
    Wifi-surfing
    Unit converter
    Dictionary
    Fax

importante sa'kin to anytime, anywhere hangga't maari.

camera phone, videocam, mp3, games - hindi gano. i'd rather use a digicam, mp3 player, computer.

I like Smartphones simply because of their ala-PDA function and I tend to use all that features specially that I have a 2GB SD card in it. 1 amazing apps that I installed is to track my fuel consumption and car mileage. There's also an apps that my wife has in her smartphone is a list of shopping items, and tracking how much and where it was bought. hehehe
My smartphone is not Symbian based (it is a WM 5.0), and there are tons of apps that are compatible with it.
What I like most on my smartphone is the ability to play mp3 and video files-strong feature on multimedia.

its not blisteringly fast but faster than my old N3230. The fone is a bit sluggish during start up but pretty much fine after that.
