more than a month ago, when I bought a samsung lcd, I realized the backlight is faulty. returned it and waited for 3 weeks, but no stock was available, so I ask for refund in the fourth week. this time, I bought a samsung 2232gw lcd on another store, the night I brought it home, I realized it has dead pixel. waited for another week for a stock, then the manager says their supplier does not honor on dead pixel, only dead pixels more than 6.

is samsung this bad? and is it true suppliers will not recognize one dead pixel?

I remember the same policy when I bought my first Samsung screens 7 years ago - a PC monitor and a monitor/TV - though I can't remember the exact number of dead pixels to warrant a replacement. The gist was that Samsung cannot guarantee all pixels to be working on brand new units. No such thing was mentioned when I bought Sony LCD's, though that was years later.

In fairness both Samsung screens are still faultless.

btw, wrong spelling pa pala yung title ko, sorry...

I have no idea what dead pixel looks like, sa back screen pala siya makikita. kaya hindi ko na kita ng pinatest ko. sa anaolg pa na plug...

but I was able to prove them today that the DVI is not working, when we tried it to my pc and theirs.

so puwede na ako mapalit ng iba. peru wala pang 2232gw stock. buti nalang binigyan ako ng service monitor, though 17" 4:3 lang. atleast better compared sa unang tindahan na hindi ako binigyan ng service unit.

sabi nila, normal daw na may atleast 1 or more dead pixels sa lahat ng unit, at hindi nila recognize yun ng supplier, suwerte lang kung may stocks pa at puwede pa ipagpalit sa tindahan........ but I find it unacceptable companies cannot guarantee a dead pixel... is our LCD quality assurance that bad?

kaya guys, bago kayo bili, dapat test ninyo lahat, at test sa dead pixel sa black screen.

A few dead pixels are OK with some manufacturers because of manufacturing limitations ... while some have a zero tolerance on dead pixel/s. LCD monitors also have a classification based on the number of allowed faulty pixels called Pixel Fault Class, but it's only a guideline and not mandatory. Google ISO 13406-2.

    That's not a dead pixel.

    - A dead pixel is a pixel that stays unlit. Best to see against a white background.

    - A hot pixel is a pixel that remains lit as white. Best to see in a dark background.

    - A stuck pixel is a pixel that remains lit - usually as green, red or blue (or a combination) and is most visible in a black background. A pixel have 3 sub-pixels ... red, green and blue.

It's a common mistake to refer to a stuck pixel as a dead pixel. Stuck pixels can sometimes be fixed (not 100%), while a dead pixel is, aah, dead. Here's a sample of a software that tries to revive a stuck pixel:

ah I see... hot pixel pala tawag nyan. thanks. the DVI is faulty, kaya I still need to have it replaced.

dead pixel , hot pixel, bubbles... bad backlight...dvi not working... LCD quality seems really bad compared to crt quality ratio.

Our Samsung LCD TV is more than a year old and is still working perfectly.

A dead pixel or two is not a big deal really especially if it is situated near the sides - those are really the downside of buying an LCD TV compared to a CRT TV.

As always, test extensively any big ticket item before purchasing it.

depends on the manufacturer. some have a zero bad pixel policy. more expensive.

always bring a pixel checker program on a usb stick whenever buying LCDs

It is because of globalization or multisourcing. I remember when I was looking at some Samsung LCDs more than a year ago, for the same model of Samsung LCD monitor, there are at least 3 suppliers of the LCD panels and each has its own share of problems and issues....

So I needed to look at the back of the LCD monitor to ascertain if it came from the best supplier (based on entries in various forums). However, later on, when Samsung realized this, the identification was removed from the back of the LCD monitor and placed in the setup configuration...

I ended up buying an LCD monitor from LG....

btw some asus models have "zero bright dot" guarantee. i suppose that's only for hot pixels. dead pixels probably aren't covered...

    this is my experience:

bumili ako ng 22" LG (2252WTQ ata ung model); after a few days, me dead pixel. had it replaced with another model, pagbukas nag pagbukas ko, me dead pixel uli! Buti na lang on the third try wala na

nakakastress talaga...but i guess as technology progresses di tlaga maiiwasan ung defects. just make sure you buy from someone na madaling kausap.

How many dead pixels bro? And, how far are they apart from each other? Usually, may certain level of tolerance iyan sa mga manufacturers. I would assume na talagang obvious and mga dead pixels ng unit mo dahil madali mong nai-sauli ang 2 units....

it was a hot pixel after all, however, the DVI doesn't work so had to return it. still waiting for the replacement ever since a week before posting my dilemmas here. I'm using a service unit 17" LCD.

the first one had backlight problems, the problem was sporadic, so I had a hard time proving my problem...

One dead pixel means a lot of trouble to me... baka in the future magprogress pa yan na parang bacteria. If halos lahat ng Samsung LCD monitor may dead pixel it would be better for me to buy another brand. Nakakapagdalawang isip tuloy kung Samsung LCD pa ang bibilin ko... pero so far kasi its the best LCD available (at least for me...) next to LG. I dunno if ok ba ang Acer, AOC or Viewsonic. 19" lang siguro ok na for my everyday use, importante lang yung widescreen na maganda ang backlight.

This is sometimes true. Of all the LCD TV's and monitors that I have at home only one gave me a problem, the HP1502 desktop monitor, though the problem was not pixel-related.

The problem turned out to be defective (leaking) capacitors from a specific manufacturer (Hermei). All other makes were OK. The monitor uses a generic board that can also be found in monitors with different brands such as Compaq, Iyama, BenQ, Dell, etc. Even if the fault falls squarely on Hermei, you can just imagine the bad rep these brands got because of one capacitor manufacturer.

To be a bit on the fair side, the monitor is already old and probably way past its expected lifespan. I just don't want to throw away something that I can still fix (cheaply).
