Desktop PCs - Do You Still Have Them?

question... yung staff ba sa office nyo naka desktop pa din? if yes, why? (cost? old equipment na gumagana pa naman? tamad ang IT?)

sa amin kasi, starting the pandemic, pinalitan ng laptop ang gamit ng lahat ng staff (pati receptionist)

then when we went back to the office... nag issue sila ng 27 inch monitor for all the staff.

any specific reason why they're still using desktops?

i use a desktop.
the screen is bigger than most laptops' , and the keyboard is standard full-size that i can position on the table any way i want.
for some reason, my hands are not comfortable, typing on a laptop keyboard.

about the only reason i might want a laptop, is because i can bring it with me.

they might not be overheaters now, but the memory of my experience remains.

I have both.... several, in fact.

Work laptop - Issued by the office that I almost always bring with me
Daughter's micro PC - She's still in grade school so she doesn't need a laptop yet
Son's laptop - He's in college so yes, I got him a laptop
Wife's laptop - She uses it mostly for Excel and financial stuff

Everything below is mine:
Home PC - Mid-tower PC at home with 3 displays for my general purpose use and video editing/rendering
Workbench PC - Mid-tower PC for hobby stuff in my workshop. It has dual 17" 4:3 displays
Home server - Mid-tower PC running 24x7 hosting my Plex content, backups, and UniFi Controller
Vmware Host - Micro-server running 24x7 hosting my DHCP, DNS, and Pi Hole
Internet Router - Mini PC running 24x7 hosting Untangle

I also have a couple of dedicated laptops (old ones) that I use as a sandbox to run "questionable" software. One such software is Techstream... a Toyota diagnostic app which came from a questionable source. Another is an Epson ink pad reset tool, also not from your usual software source.

They only work on-premise so there's really no reason to issue them laptops where they still need to secure at the end of the day, among other reasons.

kasi, if the company has no intention of allowing the worker to bring the computer out of the office...

I think desktops are still cheaper... pero biggest expense ng laptop for an office is that you still need to buy a bigger monitor, dock and keyboard and mouse...

compared sa desktop basically, complete na when you purchase.

I think we still have several more units in storage. The micro PCs are cheaper to maintain, use about the same power as a laptop, and they don't break as much. They're fine for in-office employees who are not expected to be mobile or do remote work.

We each have (sometimes multiple) laptops at home but we still keep a desktop PC that I built back in 2019. Even my wife prefers using it over her more powerful laptop bought in 2022, likely because of the 27in multi-monitor setup I made. I still enjoy building them since I picked up the hobby back in the 90s.

I'll still have desktop PCs because they do everything. What I quit buying are consoles. I haven't had a console since the PS3 and doing just fine. Consoles seem to be the most useless devices around.

Work that requires a lot of computing power (waaaay more than your standard ₱150k and below laptop) will typically still need a desktop.
