As much as I would like to stay away from debates, let me just say this first and foremost; Linux is a good OS, reasonably safe, and can be easily hardened further for mission-critical applications. But as I've said before, it's not for everyone. It will remain a niche product for a specific set of users or purpose.
You don't see enterprises deploying Linux desktops for their information workers, and with good reason. It's a nightmare for its users, the IT people and the company itself. Simply put, businesses typically need a very high SLA for critical support, something you can't rely on from a community-run desktop OS. It may be FREE outright, but operating costs can easily shoot up due to support costs as Linux SMEs are far in between.
This thread is about informing Windows users of a nasty virus. For many, switching OS now is not an option.
