Article seems accurate to me. My Toshiba laptop is 10 years old, the screen is almost dead but still functioning until now!

My recently purchased laptop is a Lenovo, about 1/3 the price of what I paid for my Toshiba. I should be happy then if it lasts 3 years? It's a year old already.

We have Asus and Acer laptops. Acer more than 5yrs running still on Windows XP. Asus on Windows 7 about 4yrs running. Both have no problems. HP of my in law, about more than a year old, broken mother board.

dati naka compaq-hp ako 3 beses pinalitan ung mother board buti 3 yrs warranty. kada taon palit mother board. ngyon 6 years na sira n keyboards

naka asus nmn ako ngyon. so far wala nmn sira mag 2 yrs na skin.

haha it isn't as simple as that. those are just brands, the actual laptops are made by OEMs like flextronics, compal, clevo, foxconn etc

then there are different product lines on each brand. the business-class thinkpads and elitebooks are probably better than the budget line

Indestructible ata ang Toshiba. I spilled half or a full glass of water on my Toshiba. I just placed it on a sack of rice for a few days, umandar na naman ulit

iba naman ang experience ko sa akin... mas matibay ang acer kaysa sa toshiba.
this is my 3rd acer laptop which i'm using now, so far so good.
i hand it down my >3 years acer laptop to my youngest daughter na natakbo pa... only issue was the battery which i considered fair because of its age.

I agree with this. It still depends on the OEM. Take note that Asus makes their own laptop chassis.

HP/Compaq comes from Compal. Interesting to note that Toshiba is also made by Compal but is widely regarded as more reliable than HP/Compaq.

On a side note, this is an example of branding's effect on non-enthusiasts, in the same way that non-car-enthusiasts would just pick a Toyota and get on with life because they couldn't care less if you said Mazda or Ford would be just as reliable.

True sir. But dont forget that these brands design their own and have the above company manufacture for them. OR the above company proposes to these brands their product line that will fit the brands model.

I could agree more to the survey. My first laptop was an Asus since early 2000. I buy only a new laptop once the upgrade costs are no longer worth it anymore. I never sent my 2 very old + current Asus laptop in service center for repairs. Sa sobrang tibay nito ayun naka junk na lang yung 2 units sa bodega. Asustek mfgt their own motherboads, graphic cards etc.... unlike other branded laptops & desktop PC are supplied by a third party companies. Toshiba is also a great laptop brand but its a bit pricey where as Asus is a bang for the buck IMO.

My ASUS netbooks never gave me any problems. Merely upgraded because they became too slow for my needs.

Have had two Acers. Both had hard drive failures, but I ran them to the absolute ground. Very dependable, got good mileage out of them.

HPs... did it twice, never again. HP Pavilion laptops are like aftermarket turbocharged Ferraris. Great when they're running, but more often than not, they'll blow up on you when you least expect it.

Toshibas are really pricey for the specs youre buying.
