August 3rd, 2017 11:56 AM #1Just bought an Asus FX550VX with following specs: 15.6" size, i5 7300HQ, NVidia GTX 950M, 1TB HDD, 1080p display, no ODD, with Win 10 64bit Home.
Want to replace the HDD to a WD Blue 500gb SSD.
Since one of those who would be using the laptop is my wife and she is not a techie and does not want a new interface (Windows 10 is alien for her), I want to change the OS from Win 10 to Win 7. I have a licensed Windows 7 64bit. Now, I checked the Asus website for drivers and the only ones there for my laptop are for Windows 10 64bit. Now could those drivers be used for Windows 7 64bit?

Even if you manage to get it working, it's only a matter of time before support ends for Win7... meaning no more patches... meaning you will be more vulnerable to malware and such.

Yup no choice really but to get used to the newest Microsoft hotness. Had Windows 8.x pre-installed in my desktop and repeatedly said no to the free Windows 10 upgrade. About a week later when I woke up, the OS was Windows 10. Not complaining as the 10 interface is much user friendlier than 8, as it turns out.

August 3rd, 2017 02:15 PM #5Downgrading OS on newer system is indeed problematic. Adapting to the new OS is less problematic. Besides, Win 10 interface is kinda similar to Win 7. Win 10 only looks intimidating at first, but one would realize sooner than later that it is not so bad at all.
Tell wifey to start using Win 10. The Start button is still there, and you can configure Win 10 to start in desktop mode much like Win 7.

It's heaven sent for my Windows 10 PC. And I believe the effect is the same with your laptop.

To answer the question, yes, the Windows 10 drivers will work with Windows 7.
From my experience, drivers are mostly interchangeable between Windows 7, 8, and 10.
However, as has been said, just learn to use Windows 10. It's really easy to transition between Windows 7 and 10.
