Hmmm. The last email I got from MS was from May 24. The link on the email was for Build 7100. When was 72xx released?

Because it is a more graphics intensive OS...the more memory on the video card, the faster the graphics render and load. Therefore, making the OS appear faster. But, having more RAM doesn't hurt either...
Perhaps you haven't tried Vista with only 1 GB.

I have. What a big difference another GB made! My laptop battery's charge even got stretched 2 more hours (closed lid) from 8 hours to 10+ hours (due to a lot less RAM-HDD swapping)!

I wonder how much an upgrade from Vista to Win7 will cost.

June 1, I believe, though it's not official release yet. and just a leak, but the 7201 is for real most people will say.

like Vista, Windows 7 takes advantage of your extra ram and share it with your video.

the 512mb video card becomes 1gb+

Ahhhh. Ok. As for the video ram...... Isn't that just like a laptop video chip except the limit is higher? Normally I'd thumb my nose at it because in the past, system ram tended to be much slower than dedicated video ram. It's kinda like virtual memory where hard drive space supplemented system ram.

But, I guess the method has its uses like not needing to swap out textures (in FSX), for example. I've already seen my 512mb card get overwhelmed with textures swapping out every time I pan the view around.

[SIZE=2]I tried dual-boot(win XP and Win7) on my old Pentium3 451mhz 512mb RAM. All i can say is win xp is still one of the most stable Windows OS after Windows 95..hehe.. Win7 dropped legacy function like hyperterminal and some missing drivers for old devices that needs to be manually loaded. 7 is better than Vista imo but both are sloww.

The laptop I'm using has been on Windows 7 since God knows when. I hate the instability of XP! Mine's build 7000, and runs much faster than XP or Vista. My laptop's a Celeron 1.5GHz with 768MB RAM. The graphics on this is an Intel 915GM, and it doesn't have WDM drivers, so no Aero.

I also installed Win7 build 7000 on my Pentium 4 desktop. Runs better than any OS I've ever used. I play GTAIV on that, and it runs pretty well for a P4.
