On 1gb ram, it runs fantastic on vista, mine is 3gb. It's not the ram that really matters tough, when it comes to Vista. I noticed that vista ran much faster when I upgraded my video card from a 128 mb to a 512mb video card.... Because it is a more graphics intensive OS...the more memory on the video card, the faster the graphics render and load. Therefore, making the OS appear faster. But, having more RAM doesn't hurt either...

Well, I'm back to Win 7 (RC Build 7100). MS kept emailing me about it plus an expiration date of June 1, 2010 is hard to ignore.

Some notes on installation of Win 7 RC......
04:30 pm - Booted with Win 7 cd, did a quick format, expanded/copied files to hard drive
04:42 pm - Reboot
04:45 pm - Completed install, reboot
04:46 pm - Setup continued
04:48 pm - First boot to desktop
04:55 pm - All done.
I spend the next 30-40 minutes downloading/installing any latest drivers, apps, and games.
Not bad.
The copy issue where no progress shows has been fixed along with the slowdown issue. All the gadgets work.
The issue with Symantec software has also been fixed.
Looks good to me.

As for external devices.......
It took a bit to find my Belkin USB WiFi G adapter. But, it was found and works. Win 7 also found/installed drivers (printing and scanning) for my old HP 4100 series printer minus all that crap that came with the HP cd.
Also, I used a DVD-RW disc to copy the Win 7 iso image to and it worked great. No wasted DVD-R.
Just about the only driver I installed myself was the latest 3rd-party nVidia GF8xxx driver in lieu of the WHQL one used by Win 7.Last edited by Jun aka Pekto; June 4th, 2009 at 07:16 AM.
