i have Kaspersky antivirus installed and still has about a year of subscription. problem is, after every updates it's virus data base is still obsolete or out of date. email kaspersky support a couple of times but the one reply was a computer generated reply... saying to re-install... but it did not work... now kaspersky acts like a virus eating up CPU usage and RAM... slowing down the lappy. when i stopped kaspersky, CPU usage went down as well as ram usage.

is bitdefender better? any other experience with other antivirus programs?

If you're using Windows XP or 7, download Microsoft Security Essentials. it's effective and totally free. That is, if your Windows copy passes the license validation.

avast pro. low ram and low cpu usage. been using it for 4 years now, never had a virus. updates automatically as many times a day as the viruses come out.

i'm no techy, just telling what i see.

Agree! Avast is relatively light on resources. Though I disabled its sandbox features since I'm using a separate software (sandboxie)
