i have Kaspersky antivirus installed and still has about a year of subscription. problem is, after every updates it's virus data base is still obsolete or out of date. email kaspersky support a couple of times but the one reply was a computer generated reply... saying to re-install... but it did not work... now kaspersky acts like a virus eating up CPU usage and RAM... slowing down the lappy. when i stopped kaspersky, CPU usage went down as well as ram usage.

is bitdefender better? any other experience with other antivirus programs?

If you're using Windows XP or 7, download Microsoft Security Essentials. it's effective and totally free. That is, if your Windows copy passes the license validation.

Who among here is using EMET...? not an antivirus software but a threat mitigating tool from Microsoft which prevent malicious software to exploit vulnerabilities of programs within your system. EMET now is in its version 3, been using it since version 1.

for more info --> The Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit
