Nag-overlanding nako thrice, twice in zambales, once sa tanay.

Its fun. Overnight kwentuhan, bagal ng oras.

I went using a hiram na Hilux. Toyota pa rin ang preferred brand.

Nice! How was the trail going to the camp site? Ok lang kahit 4x2?

Been thinking a lot lately of buying a pickup truck or suv para masetup for overlanding with roof tent. Mas gusto ko sana 4x4 para kahit papaano capable sa mga rough terrain.

Napansin ko sa mga brand new suv yung 4x4 available na lang sa top most variant, yung more than 2M na. Too expensive for me. Kung pickup truck, meron 4x4 sa 1.3 to 1.6M variants, mas affordable.

I'm also considering 2nd hand suvs/trucks. Concern lang kapag 2nd hand yung reliability, so kailangan talaga maiging inspection sa mga dapat ayusin bago gamitin sa long trips. Siguro kung may makitang 2nd hand Land Cruiser 100 series na below 1M at maganda pa condition, why not.

For peace of mind, go 4x4. The trails kasi becomes muddy after rains, kahit light trails lang. eh we cant say na its not going to rain, minsan kahit dry season umuulan.

Pickups are better than SUVs. Obviously more cargo space.

Sa vehicle naman, I prefer newer ones. Kasi we’re not yet at that part na we can repair the rigs sa trail mismo. Ako nga I got talked into selling my ranger raptor kasi di daw reliable accdg to some offroaders. Toyota daw mas “reliable”. (OT went to into Toyota to buy a Conquest, came out with a GRY.)

Nowadays the 4x4 for Toyota Hilux is now limited to the Conquest unlike before you can buy a 4x4 with the E and G variant.

The Nissan Navara seems to be a nice cheaper option. There's the 4x4 mid variants VL and VE priced between 1.3 to 1.6M. Comfy rear suspension and seats are plus factors of daily driving in the city.

A good USED 1 could leave you enough change for the build you desire.[emoji4]

Theres still the Hilux J, its a barebones 4x4.

If one finds the 6cyl LC79 expensive, the J is the modest counterpart. (smaller engine nga lang)

Actually I saw a couple of Js fully modded out, ARB all around. And theyre calling it the UN peacekeeper look.

Get the Navara for comfort. Usually ang overlanding starts with long distance paved road. Kung tagtag ka na at hilo sa Hilux, pagdating mosa actual trail bka masuka ka

Just came back from Siruma and San Ramon Trip, d best ang unpaved roads.

4WD 24-7 Aussie off roaders is my recent favorite. They got some very extreme 4WD adventures, very sticky recovery situations.

I don't have plans yet to go full time with off roading. Weekend glamping with a decent roof tent and a capable 4x4 vehicle would be enough for me.

I only wish it was a lot cooler here. I'd go every weekend if that was the case. Minimum gear for me would be an awning tent, roof tent and a shower enclosure.

What are your recommended shops for overlanding rigs and mods?

Overland Kings is quite upfront with their product pricing

Ironman 4x4 gear seems the most reasonably priced among the Aussie brands. Trukshop Offroaders carries this. Not sure about their other dealers. Best to compare quotes from everyone to get the best deal.
