Excellent race by Kimi. Piss poor performance by Vettel.
And there goes another Renault engine.Last edited by ClaNker; April 20th, 2015 at 01:49 AM.

Kimi stood a better chance of winning if they changed his tyre a couple of laps earlier, and with both Mercs suffering brake-by-wire failure... But that's racing.

I disagree. Watching the live timing, he had lost his two second a lap advantage by the time he caught up to Nico... and was only just over a second faster. Even then, he only had that easy overtake because Nico's brakes had gone out.
If he'd have pitted three or four laps earlier (Kimi's last pit was seven laps after Nico's), his lap time differential would not have been so large... he might have been able to get around Nico after spending a longer time behind him (I assume he would have only had a one second or less time differential in the closing laps), but he would never have caught Lewis.
-
That Ferrari, however... it's only a matter of time before it wins a race. Terrific rear tire conservation and traction... The Mercedes has never been kind to its tires (or brakes!)... ever... but that didn't matter last season when they were so much faster than everyone else. If the Ferrari matches them in terms of power while still being gentler on tires, it'll be a tough fight near the end of the season.
-
Also, glad to see Kimi getting some use out of those weird tire management strategies they made him do at Lotus... ...that's one thing Finger-boy can definitely learn from the Iceman. Hell... it's probably Vettel's only weakness... saving those rear tires. Otherwise, he's an incredibly fast driver and qualifier.
