Formula Tyre Championship
Nakatakas si Fernando...
May 13 (GMM) The FIA on Sunday considered penalising Fernando Alonso for picking up a Spanish flag during his post-chequered flag in-lap.
After winning his home race in Barcelona, Alonso stopped beside a marshal who furnished his Spanish compatriot and hero with a red and yellow Spanish flag.
Once in 'parc ferme', the Ferrari driver draped the flag over the '1' signboard indicating where he should park.
But the glorious moment was actually a breach of a regulation about "receiving an object" prior to the post-race weighing and scrutineering procedure, and Alonso and a Ferrari team member were summoned to the stewards.
Ultimately, the FIA officials let him off without penalty "to be consistent with a previous decision made under similar circumstances".
Miserable race last weekend except for Ferrari and the consistent lotus, everyone were just conserving their tires. You can't attack or defend unless you love going to the box 8 times.
Pirelli and Bernie surely ruined this season for the sport.![]()
He who adapts... Wins.
Two seasons ago, Ferrari were struggling mightily with the more durable tires. Their car was fast, but it couldn't get heat into the tires easily. Last year, they gambled on changing suspensions, and suffered half-a-year for it (even though Alonso came close in the Championship, the car was a dog for the first half of the season). Now, the tires match their car and they've got the set-up right. Other teams have just switched and are now going through the same problems (most notably McLaren).
F1 is all about development. Teams knew the tires would be fragile. They've had the whole off-season to develop for that. Ferrari got it right. Red Bull has issues, but they're working around them. Lotus have always had an edge in tires, so they're riding that now. Kimi did only three pitstops, and still came in third. And his first two stints were on the "fragile" tire.
If you can't adapt. You lose. That's F1. The only thing Pirelli has to work on is stopping tire delamination.
And, at this point, they should finally drop the "two tire" rule. Pirelli can bring two compounds, but they shouldn't force people to use both during the race.
And it's not Bernie's decision, it's the FIA.

Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
However, according to news, they got samples of the race tyres only at the start of the race....
Meaning they have the specs during development, - and without live samples,- it was a hit and miss affair....
Sink or swim actually started at the start of the season...... And with the ban on testing... Hhhhmmmm,- a second level of complication...
