Mukhang may tinatago si Newey.
Photography in the unveiling area was banned, and wi-fi limited to reporters' own intrepid dongles.
You could squint at the RB9 from a distance, but the covers were swiftly pulled back across as the press conference drew to a close. And Red Bull bucked the trend for online launch broadcasts too.
Infiniti's enhanced role as title sponsor got plenty of exposure, which was ultimately the point of the event from Red Bull's perspective.
But, Newey reckoned, it wasn't as if his team was being any more secretive than its peers.
"The other teams have only made limited-view pictures available - rather like we're presenting today," said Newey with a touch of his lead driver's impishness.
"It's easy to make big styling or feature changes, but whether that really brings much lap time benefit or not is another matter.
"Often it's the small details that aren't very clear to a faraway camera that are most significant."

Yup... everyone is trying to keep things under wraps. Most of the cars have launched with dummy exhausts and/or rear diffusers, as well as near 2012 spec wings.
McLaren even got one journo to take down pics of the naked stepped nose-cone that he tweeted.

Toro Rosso reveals its 2013 car, the STR8
Toro Rosso has revealed its 2013 Formula 1 challenger, the STR8, on the eve of this year's first pre-season test at Jerez.
The Italian squad was a distant ninth in last year's constructors' championship, although it did finish the year strongly with six points finishes in the final nine races.
Red Bull protegees Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne have been retained for their second full seasons.
"It's very emotional," said team boss Franz Tost. "The team has worked with a very high level of effort to come up with a great car and met the high expectations for this year.
"The goal is to finish sixth in the constructors' championship. The STR8 is the first car under James Key and Luca Furbatto.
"Both drivers did a really good job last year, and I'm convinced if we supply them with a good car they'll come up with surprise results."
The team has made changes behind the scenes, with former Sauber technical chief James Key arriving in September - a move team principal Franz Tost believes will usher in a 'new chapter' in the team's history.
For the seventh straight year the team will be powered by Ferrari engines.
The unveiling of the STR8 means eight teams have now revealed their 2013 challengers.
Caterham and Marussia will follow suit tomorrow, immediately before the start of Jerez testing, while Williams will take the covers of the FW35 ahead of the second test at Barcelona.

He says it would have been impossible 'so late in the day' to find a replacement for the Grand Prix of America, following speculation that another European race would be inserted into the schedule.
Ecclestone said: "Disappointed it didn't happen before but you can't suddenly slot it in."
The second US race was provisionally booked for June before being left off the final list of races although Ecclestone is supremely confident a 20th Grand Prix will be held next season.
Istanbul - which was dropped from the F1 schedule in 2012 - had been mooted along with Portugal as being a possible late addition.
Meanwhile Russia will make its debut in 2014 and Ecclestone, who recently visited Sochi, added: "He (President Vladimir Putin) seems delighted with the Olympics and Formula 1.
"It was good. I was very impressed with what they have done."

Look like RB9 is pretty reliable during the test in Jerez. Unfortunately Vettel isn't interested in testing how fast the car can go, which left me wondering if RB9 is fast enough.
Reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel posted the third-quickest time, although the Red Bull driver spent much of the day putting the RB9 through long runs on medium and hard-compound tyres.
