Lap 3: Maldonado is 13th with Alguersuari 14th, Perez 15th, Kovalainen up well to 16th ahead of Glock and Buemi.


Lap 3: Race control has now enabled the DRS, with the zone available on the run around to the final chicane.


Lap 3: Hamilton is now almost two seconds clear as Webber, Vettel and Alonso run nose-to-tail.


Lap 3: Petrov is eighth with Schumacher ninth, Button down to 10th after a poor start, Barrichello 11th and Kobayashi 12th.


Lap 3: Hamilton is pressing home his advantage up front with a particularly rapid pace through the first part of the lap.


Lap 2: Heidfeld has also lost a lot of ground. He possibly had to avoid the spinning Force India. He is 23rd.


Lap 2: A costly mistake for Alonso in the opening complex of corners and Vettel is back through into third place.


Lap 2: It was Paul di Resta that spun just after the start. He has dropped to the back of the pack.


Lap 2: Hamilton's lead is 1.2 seconds over Webber, Alonso, Vettel, Rosberg, Massa and Sutil.


Lap 2: Hamilton begins to pull a gap on the run around to the end of the first lap as Vettel harries Alonso.


Lap 2: Buemi is up six places to 18th already by the midway stage of the opening lap.


Lap 1: A spinner in the middle of the pack at Turn 3 and the field is strung out already as the first lap continues.


Lap 1: Down to the hairpin for the first time it is a fast-starting Hamilton from Webber, Alonso, Vettel and Rosberg.


Lap 1: Webber has a poor getaway and Hamilton jumps him into Turn 1. Alonso is also up to third ahead of Vettel.

Lap 7: Behind the scrap between Rosberg and Massa, Sutil is seventh with Schumacher now closing on his countryman.

Lap 7: Hamilton's lead is down to a second as Webber continues with his strong race pace.

Lap 7: Petrov in ninth has begun to pick up the pace after a difficult couple of laps. Button is still tucked up behind him.

Lap 7: Teams are told by forecasters Meteo France that no rain is expected in the next 30 minutes.

Lap 6: Webber closes to 1.2 seconds off leader Hamilton, while Alonso is now right on the tail of Vettel again.

Lap 6: Buemi passes Kovalainen for 16th position, leaving the Finn to fend off Heidfeld's attack.

Lap 6: Massa tries the DRS move on Rosberg but he can't make it stick around the outside into the chicane.

Lap 6: Di Resta is up to 20th place, having passed Liuzzi, d'Ambrosio, Ricciardo and Chandhok.


Lap 5: Heidfeld is also steaming up through the field after being compromised on the first lap. He is 18th and 2.7s behind Buemi.


Lap 5: Webber is beginning to match Hamilton on pace up front, with just under two seconds between them.


Lap 5: Buemi has passed Glock and takes over 17th place.


Lap 5: Schumacher is now closing down the gap to Sutil, while behind him Petrov's pace is already falling in ninth.


Lap 5: Massa is encouraged to pass Rosberg to prevent his race being "ruined."


Lap 4: Alonso repeats his mistake of running wide at Turn 3, dropping away from the Red Bull pair.


Lap 4: It was also a typically aggressive getaway from Alonso, who barged his way between the Red Bulls for an early third place.


Lap 4: Button is now on the tail of Petrov's Renault as a battle shapes up for ninth.


Lap 4: Replays show a poor start from Webber, allowing Hamilton an easy launch into the lead at the first corner.

Lap 11: Perez is now nine seconds behind a three-car scrap for 21st between d'Ambrosio, Ricciardo and Chandhok.

Lap 11: Replays show a huge spin for Vettel after he clipped the wet grass at the side of the circuit. That's an uncharacteristic mistake.

Lap 11: Perez is back out after that early stop, but he has fallen to the rear of the field.

Lap 10: Race control reports Vettel has been off track at Turn 10 and he as tumbled back to just ahead of Rosberg and Massa.

Lap 10: Paul di Resta has passed Kovalainen for 17th position with a neat move up the inside at the NGK chicane.

Lap 10: The lead gap is pegged at around a second between Hamilton and Webber.

Lap 9: Perez comes into the pits at the end of the lap.

Lap 9: Sergio Perez has been slightly off-track. He lost nine seconds in the middle sector and drops to 19th.

Lap 9: A fine overtake from Alonso, who now sets off to chase down the other Red Bull of Webber.

Lap 9: Kobayashi has now pulled himself up to the Petrov-Button fight, making it a three-car scrap for ninth.

Lap 8: Meanwhile Alonso shows how it is done with a bold move down the inside of Vettel into Turn 1, putting the Ferrari up to third.

Lap 8: Massa continues to put the DRS pressure on Rosberg but is still struggling to make it stick.

Lap 8: Heidfeld is also now through on Kovalainen and takes 17th place. Di Resta will be the next man knocking at the Finn's door.

Lap 13: Rosberg tried to close the door but it was just too late as Massa sets off to chase down the delayed Vettel.

Lap 12: Massa tires Alonso's move on Rosberg into the first corner and finally makes it stick to take away fifth place.

Lap 12: Buemi has also been into the pits after that incident to get the Toro Rosso checked, but has since rejoined.

Lap 12: The Renault then smashed into the braking marker boards and the German has retired with front end damage.

Lap 12: Heidfeld was on the outside and Buemi eased across to take the racing line for the chicane. The pair made side-to-side heavy contact.

Lap 12: Hamilton's lead is now 0.7 seconds and the McLaren man is told to look after his tyres.

Lap 12: Heidfeld has suffered contact at the NGK chicane. He had been fighting with Buemi for 16th.

Lap 11: Vettel's tyres can't be in good condition now after sliding across the run-off and he may be forced to pit earlier than planned

Lap 14: Webber is now coming under attack from Alonso and just manages to hold off the Ferrari into the first corner.

Lap 14: Hamilton asks the team to stop talking to him while racing, as he resumes his place at the top of the order.

Lap 14: D'Ambrosio now runs 21st with Buemi 22nd and Chandhok 23rd after that stop.

Lap 14: With that incident di Resta is now up to 15th with Kovalainen 16th, Glock 17th, Liuzzi 18th, Perez 19th and Ricciardo in 20th place.

Lap 14: Incredible racing for the lead there, with Hamilton, Webber and Alonso now right together on the circuit.

Lap 13: Hamilton makes a mistake out of the chicane, letting Webber through before the McLaren man fights back into the lead at the first corner!

Lap 16: Thanks to the traffic, Hamilton and Alonso ignore Webber's stop and continue into another lap.

Lap 16: Perez is now 11.3s behind Kovalainen in 16th. Meantime, the Lotus driver posts his quickest lap of the race so far.

Lap 16: Webber has resumed behind Sutil, which may dent his chances of progress on the fresh tyres.

Lap 16: Perez has overtaken Timo Glock for 17th position, as he recovers from that off-track moment and an early pit visit.

Lap 16: Rosberg has also made his first stop, and this will surely force Hamilton and Alonso in the pits.

Lap 15: Webber is in for fresh rubber in an attempt to undercut Hamilton and Alonso.

Lap 15: Red Bull are out in the pitlane for Webber.

Lap 15: The battle for ninth continues between Petrov and Button. Kobayashi has dropped off a little and is 2.4s behind them.

Lap 15: Hamilton is enjoying this break from Webber's pressure as Alonso harries the Red Bull around the circuit

Lap 18: Meanwhile, Alonso is all over Hamilton's gearbox and looking for his favourite move into the first corner.

Lap 18: Barrichello has also been into the pits as light spots of rain begin to come down once again.

Lap 18: Massa pits, handing the lead to Webber.

Lap 18: The undercut pays off for Webber, with McLaren and Ferrari perhaps wrong to not react immediately to the Red Bull stop.

Lap 18: Schumacher rejoined in 12th position after his stop. He is behind a fight between Rosberg and Alguersuari.

Lap 18: Hamilton re-joins just behind Webber, with Alonso following right on his tail.

Lap 18: Massa takes over the lead but Webber fighting behind him is now the effective leader.

Lap 17: Hamilton, Alonso and Vettel all pit.

Lap 17: Maldonado has been into the pits from 12th. He is likely to drop into the space between Kovalainen and Perez.

Lap 17: McLaren are in the pitlane to react to Webber's speed.

Lap 17: Webber has now cleared Sutil and is now the fastest man through the first and second sectors.

Lap 17: Schumacher is the next man to pit, visiting the Mercedes crew for fresh rubber.

Lap 17: Button now attacks Petrov for ninth round the outside of the NGK chicane. The Russian places his Renault perfectly and maintains position.

Lap 20: Hamilton sets the fastest lap, closing to 0.8s behind leader Webber.

Lap 20: Massa is now eighth in the pitstop phase with Vettel tight up behind him. Rosberg is 10th with Schumacher 11th.

Lap 19: Some odd drops of rain falling at the moment as the leaders build back up to speed on the second set of tyres.

Lap 19: Problems for Barrichello. He is wheeled into the Williams garage and retirement.

Lap 19: So the order is Webber from Hamilton and Alonso ahead of Sutil, Button, Petrov and Kobayashi, who are yet to stop.

Lap 19: Button has made it past Petrov and takes over what is a current sixth place.

Hamilton leaps of his car, through the barricades and into the arms of his team. He's happy I think. The top three walk up to the podium and Hamilton, with an enormous smile on his face, receives the ovation. Anthems.
