2006 F1 season preview

I don't like the sound of Honda supplying two teams again. A few years ago, they decided to give up on Jordan and concentrate with BAR so that they can increase performance and reliability. Following their complete acquisition of BAR to become a full works team, and having to revert to V8 engines, a B team doesn't seem promising as far as the main team is concerned as of now.

As for the Red Bull Junior being allowed to race a detuned 2005 Cosworth V10 next year, I find it even NUTTIER than the 1-tyre rule (thankfully scrapped at least). Just how is it supposed to equal the performance of the new-spec engines in the other teams, with two fewer cylinders and .6-liter smaller capacity?

Well, it is applicable to all.

Since the FIA assumed that not all teams have the money to develop in time a new V8 engine, the FIA allowed the use of the old V10 engine but with a rev-limiter. Currently only Squadra Toro Rosso availed of this option. The rev-limited V10 will have less power than the new V8 but not by much.

This is also good thinking on the part of Red Bull by not placing their eggs on one basket. If the new V8 will come out as less reliable then the V10 option might prove more viable.

You'll see more sponsor / partner changes in the near future as F1 teams are preparing for the eventual pullout of tobacco companies.

So are you saying that even teams like Ferrari can choose the detuned V10 option?
