    Why-o-why a 944?

    I would rather get a mid-eighties 911. :car:

GHOSTHUNTER- Why oh why a 944?

Because for the same or similiar performance you spend a WHOLE WHOLE LOT LESS for a 944! Even cheaper is the rough running audi powered 924 TURBO (1981 euro version) putting out 177bhp(when new).

Another reason is if your not a Porsche purist who doesnt require an air cooled rear engine and the classic PORSCHE 911 look.

And still another reason is if you are the minority who dont like the FAMOUS inverted bathtub look and prefer something closer to a berlinetta shape. I guess beauty is in the eyes of the beholder??

Obviously from a Porsche enthusiast like you, your posted answer would be taken as but natural. Having a Porsche at any cost would be worth the money spent on it.

If you want to spend a whole lot less for performance, there is always Japanese cars like Nissan, Toyota and Honda with their powerful engines and great handling without the expensive price tag.

If you would be talking about the 944 in europe, then it wouldn't be a problem. But in the Philippines, getting rare 944 parts would be prohibitive. So why spend so much money on a car that is almost 20 years old, even if it was a "sports car" back in the day when you have other options open.

If it was YOU spending the cash, go ahead BUT the fact is the threadstarter was asking advise if it would be a good idea to buy a 944 in japan and have it shipped to the Philippines.

The 944 isn't just a sportscar... it was a junior supercar for its time... of course, since it was very expensive near the end of its run, parts are rare and $$$.

I'd get one, myself... I love the look and sound of the 944... but then again, if you want a junior supercar that's distinct, you could go for a Supra or a Nissan GT-R of the same vintage, and it'd cost much less....

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Niky, you'd get anything with four wheels and a turbo.

    Hi GHOSTHUNTER!
Sorry dude! I wasnt intending to give you a hard time, after all in the end its "just a car".

Truth is i was just reacting to one among millions (GHOSTHUNTER)?? who would rather get a 911. I dont even consider myself a Porsche enthusiast. I just sometimes come to the "defense" (at least in europe and the usa) of the generally UN-appreciated Porsche front engined water cooled cars (924,944,928,968) by the sometimes snobish 911 crowd (i dont mean you necessarily GHOSTHUNTER ) because of the reasons i mentioned in my last post. They are after all the CHEAPEST of the lot to buy as compared to even older 911`s.

And NO, i certainly DONT have the funds to get even a P500,000 early 944, more so a 911 of any vintage. All i have in fact is a 30 yr old 924 that i bought 14 yrs ago for a lot less than the price of the lowest end Honda`s at the time. with about 50,000km or so on the engine that was overhauled years ago and with a really poor cheap paint job. I try my best to maintain it with the minimum of cash after the overhaul. I drove it for 10 yrs with a broken brake booster coz i couldnt afford to order even a surplus one from abroad.

Though recently i transferred an old working 29 yr old booster from an old junked passat and did the math to have the machine shop cut the pushrod behind it. I installed it, and it worked ok. I also overhauled my front/rear brakes and replaced my shocks. I also troubleshooted my electronic ignition problem w/ an even older multitester. I do my own tuneups as well (thank god its only a simple 4 cylinder 8 valver pumping out 40 hp LESS than a HONDA SIR).

As you can see, i do whatever work i can for my car as i am essentially cash strapped.

I realize its a really WEAK and PRIMITIVE car as compared i`m sure to what you guys drive, but its all i can afford to buy and maintain. And you guys thought all porsche owners had the bucks...

P.S. Not to worry, i`l try not to start any kind of a thread on this as i consider myself a real amateur on car matters. I`m just your basic "can barely afford" enthusiast DIYer.
    CHEERS!
