    Okay am a newbie here on the subject of porsches and need help.

    How can you visually tell a 924 from a 944 when there are no badges and by just checking at things in a cursory manner.

    Also can someone explain the diff in engines and which of the two would be more difficult to work on? which is more desirable of the two as well? What to look out for.

    Personally I wouldn't get either versions.

    I'd rather look for a mid to late 80s 911.

    Visually the 924 is bare unlike the 944 which has flared fenders and a small rear whale tail spoiler. The turbo versions of both have 4 oval slots above the front bumper. The 924 is Audi powered while the 944 has a Porsche 2.5l engine. Both share the same ZF transaxle (the transmission is integrated with the differential) which gives the car an almost perfect balance.

    Tinkering with the car is about the same for both models and parts I think can still be ordered from Performance Products (US)or PGA or any Porsche dealer for that matter. Its is an enjoyable experience owning a Porsche front engined rear wheel driven car. If ever the opportunity came to find one in excellent condition I'd buy the 1991 Porsche 944 Turbo OR the 3.0l 1995 Porsche 968 CS (the last front engined car before the Cayenne). You'll never know till you've experienced one.

    I like 944 better...for body styling and lesser headache.

    944 wider body



    924 is a headache.
    924 slimmer body

    Even if it was really a bargain since from someone I know? Unfortunately I can't afford a 911 even if i wanted one.

    Just need the info to be able to identify the unit I will be shown. It appears to be a 924S now that I have done more internet research. Does that mean it has the Porsche powerplant? Would that be intimidating? Compared to the Audi engined one? Will need to check up close though and investigate more.

    IF you live in the Philippines and the car shown you is red, has a hood scoop, has 4 oval slots above the front bumper, has a 5sp ZF sports transmission,has 944 flared front fenders BUT the rear has 924 Carrera GT flares, does not have a glass rear hatch but a Strosek kit hatch (looks like its been lifted off a Ferrari 308),no badges except the Porsche up front, and does not look like the pictures above PM me.

    Would a 924 be a good daily driver if all it meant was driving mostly in Makati to and from work and possible the occasional trip to Manila or QC. They are after all german cars are they not?

    I see more and more old-school cars parked along the offices of Makati including some benzes so why not an entry level Porsche?

    YES it will make a good daily driver. The suspension will hold up better than the 1st gen BMW3. Just make sure you have the tropical spec radiator.

924 vs 944 - what's the diff?
