Hmmm... Let me turn the question around - what, exactly, do you lose by believing in God? I believe in God - through my own reasoning, logic, reflection and experiences, and not because my Church says so. At the same time, I'm not the sort of person who says "bahala na ang Diyos" - I always strive to attain my goals in life, I try to be charitable because of a belief in doing good, I do my best to be and upstanding and moral person. I'm fascinated by science, particularly physics, and enjoy learning for its own sake. I tend to be of the reflective type, with a philosphical bend regarding the being and the human person - I read books by various philosophers on my own time. Finally, though I believe that the Church is, overall, a force for good in the world, I do not blindly follow whatever it says, and am not afraid to criticize its actions when I feel that they are wrong or misguided.

I feel the issue most people have is that they conflate the idea of God with that of the Church, and since they have this hatred of religion, for whatever reason (seems to be the trend nowadays...), they also have to say no to a belief in God.

For myself, as long as you do not substitute belief for reasoning - that is, you do not just blindly belief, but instead have a faith that seeks understanding - then no harm is done in a belief in God - indeed, for some people, it is a positive influence in their lives. It is when one subordinates one's mind and abrogates thinking to other individuals - be it political party, religion, even something as simple as a barkada - that the most harmful consequences arrive.

Heh, I could go on and on regarding this topic - I've given it a lot of thought

This is how Jesus would most probably looked like based on archeological studies of people from Judea at Jesus' time.

Now, would Jesus be worshiped as much if he looked like a scruffy guy? I don't think so.

The catholic church will LIE just to make it easier to sell God. Even a date as important as Christmas was changed to coincide with Pagan festivities.

How about celebrating Christ's real birthday on April 17?

I don't think the catholics are willing to adjust for a man who died for us.
Whatever happen to the 9th Commandment, THOU SHALT NOT LIE?

    Nakalimutan ulit ng simbahan

JESUS: "My children, can you please celebrate my REAL Birthday on the April 17. Anyway, I did DIE for you."

CATHOLICS:"AY hindi pwede, ang Init pag April. Mas masaya pag December, isabay na sa New Year.

It's easy to cut up statements to fit your own needs and agendas. The full statement was: "as long as you do not substitute belief for reasoning - that is, you do not just blindly belief, but instead have a faith that seeks understanding - then no harm is done in a belief in God." Where, in the examples you've posted, was any reasoning done? I've also mentioned not subordinating one's mind to that of a group, which is exactly what these people have done.
