MANILA, Philippines -- The reluctance of the management and staff of Valley Golf and Country Club to shed light into the tee house brawl between the families of Agrarian Reform Secretary Nasser Pangandaman, and businessman Delfin de la Paz has frustrated Antipolo police.
"Nobody wants to talk. We sent investigators there to talk to eyewitnesses [on Sunday], but nobody wanted to talk to the police. Of course we couldn't force them to speak," said Superintendent Raul Bargamento, Antipolo police chief.
He said each camp would be bringing its own set of witnesses once the charges and countercharges had been filed with the city prosecutor's office.
"It would be better if we had neutral witnesses, but each camp has its own witnesses. They talk freely to the other parties but not to us. I can't understand it," Bargamento said.
Officers of Valley Golf also have not made themselves available for interview with police investigating the allegation by De La Paz and his 14-year-old son that they were beaten by Pangandaman’s son, Nasser Jr., and several golfing companions last Friday."
This is a common problem of crime investigators in the country. Maraming ususero pero wala naman gustong tumestigo. Generally, we tend to gossip a lot since there's not much accountability or credibility required (a very unbiblical attitude because according to the the bible we are accountable for every idle word we speak and lying is, of course, a breach of the commandments). When it comes to saying things that require us to tell the truth and nothing but the truth, only God can help the police to make us talk. Lying is a way of life among our professionals like showbiz folks, journalists, politicians, among others.
Is there still hope for us??Last edited by russpogi; January 15th, 2009 at 04:58 AM.

This is just really frustrating. That is why it is even harder to teach our kids on not telling lies because we can't even be a role model for them.
That is why God only created ten commandments for us to follow.

January 13th, 2009 12:17 PM #4I think we are a nation of cowards if we are fighting with someone who is more powerful and rich than us. And we are a nation of bullies if we think that we are more powerful and rich than our enemy.
For the question if there is still hope, I don't know but me too is also hoping that things would change.

Hope only means that whatever must happen, will happen. It does not take sides nor guarantees any optimistic end.
You don't force anybody to speak, but you convince them to. Forcing them to speak does not guarantee they will speak the truth, but that they will only speak.
For what it's worth, the article is too generalized. Not all professions mentioned encompass lying individuals.
Of course they won't talk, because the media is all over them, and they'll fear for their lives should the other party threaten them to shut up and such.

Well that's really small potatoes. You should see some of the stuff these guys expose. I do find some comments slightly offensive but you can see were they are coming from looking in from the outside.

Hopefully some good will come out of it but i doubt much since everyone is pretty much in league with the corruption there.Last edited by dvldoc; January 18th, 2009 at 03:43 PM.

On the contrary, hope is always an expectation of something favorable or desirable will happen. Possible confusion might come from those hoping something bad to happen but this is invariably wishing ill to others e.g. "madapa ka sana" or "I wish you all die" sort of curse. This hope for the negative is in fact hoping for what's desirable or favorable to the one making such statement of hope, this means if anything bad happens to the subject of such hope, the one who hoped will be better off. And this is true for the suicidal who hopes he dies because death to him will allow him to finally escape the unbearable life he is living.
Forcing somebody to do something against his will is bullying and the lying to escape accountability is cowardice. I guess we do have a lot of these kinds in the country.
It is suppose to show a specific event that is reflective of the general condition.
What profession does not have liars, doctors faced with malpractice suits, priests covering up pedophiles among them, tellers conveniently forgetting to give loose change?
Of course, cowards won't talk specially if speaking the truth will hurt powerful people who will certainly do them harm. Truth is so easy to sacrifice for safety's sake.
Our nation really need heroes who will stand firm against evil knowing that that God is on their side. Whoever loves his life will lose it but he who gives his life to God will find true life.
Be careful with channels like "China Observer" on YouTube. There is a clear bias in their posts and...
