ISIS prisoners: 'Huge concerns' thousands may escape as Turkey invades Syria - CNNPolitics

"Washington (CNN)Fears are growing among American officials that thousands of ISIS fighters may escape from prisons in Syria as the Kurdish personnel guarding them gear up for a fight with Turkey, which launched a military offensive in northeastern Syria on Wednesday.

Turkey's assault has already had a "detrimental effect" on American counter-ISIS operations, which have "effectively stopped," a senior US defense official told CNN on Wednesday."

nobody's gonna trust the US na

    unreliable ally

the Kurds were boots-on-the-ground for the US

the US supplied weapons to the Kurds to fight ISIS so the US didn't have to send their own troops

may understanding yata that later on the US will back statehood for the Kurds

    wala na

    shattered dream

now the Kurds are driven to seek alliance with Assad to fight back the Turkish invasion

Win for Assad and of course Putin

We got plenty of problems at home that needs fixing. Let somebody else take center stage and be the world's policeman. China? Russia? Sure. Go right ahead. Personally, I'm not interested in the US being the prom queen for the world and I'm not alone on it.

And why is this president so worked up not to ruffle Erdoğan's feathers?

I give you three words: Trump Towers Istanbul

We should've seen this coming. The writings were on the wall...

    From 2016:
Well, Russia is already stepping in and they're dealing with Turkey. Syria is a sovereign country and they want the Russians there. No one really likes ISIS so those terrorists will probably get killed or captured again.
I don't see why US should continue wasting taxpayers money on the Kurds when it can let others handle the problem.

If Syrian and Turkish forces clash, Iran will surely get dragged in the conflict since they're the main power in Syria. Iran is an enemy of US.

I think if Iran will intervene in syria, the more reasons the U.S will go on war with them... waiting game for the U.S since they already deployed their troops in ksa...

    Goodluck..

I doubt US would ever go full isolationist. Its primary goal is still to contain China and it's hard to win a war if you're fighting on multiple fronts.

Why go to war when you can turn the idiots against one another? Just sit back, relax, and enjoy hehe.

It's really up to Russia now to diffuse the situation.

Most of the US troops are probably antimissile/antiaircraft crews and their security. Gotta protect that oil and oil refineries. Purely defensive and they're not going anywhere except when it's time to pack up and go home.

Also the current US military is the smallest I've seen in my lifetime. 2M total? I can remember a time when the USAF alone had 2M personnel.

Actually, active duty forces number around 1.5M for all branches. Add the reserves and the total might reach 2M. That's very small. North Korea's military numbers about what? 7M total?

Nothing new. This is the way the Turks have always done business with the US. They know how valuable Incirlik AB is to the US. Remember 2003? I was there when the Turkish government had a fit (about the US Armenian Resolution) and closed the base. No one enters, no one leaves. I was stuck there for almost 3 months.

At least, I had 3 months of spending most of my days playing basketball and lounging at the base pool together with the Brits.

    Incirlik AB.....
