billion billion yun baba ng panukala ni recto sa panukala ni sen.miriam at lacson
yan lang ang kasagutan para dina manigarilyo ang mahihirap
Sabi ni Ralph Morris, most of the provisions in the lower house version is "bahala na ang Diyos". They run counter to international laws regarding taxation of liquor. Remember the hoolabaloo when the Philippines decided to increase taxes on imported books and printed material...

pnoy reaps the good economy started by GMA... GMA is an economist... pasira lang talaga yung mga nakapaligid sa kanya like FG and Mikey
Ako I'm 50/50 sa sin tax, first I don't smoke nor drink...so not affected by this
But I see the point of recto you cant just imposed higher tax Sa Isang bagay dahil mamatay yun industry...you have to balance...or probably incremental yun I crease hinde pwede yun Isang bagsakan.
As for the price of pack of cigs here compare to other countries eh I-compare tayo Sa first world eh natural Mas mahal talaga doon, why not compare our prices Sa developing countries rin like Vietnam, Cambodia, laos...

the way I see it the higher the Sin Tax the better for our local tabaco industry, why? kasi magiging mahal ang imported na sigarillo.
while our local farmers can sell the tabaco leaves and let the smokers roll their own cigars hehehe, kasi pag dumaan pa yan sa factory dun na pumapasok ang taxes.
Drilon said he hopes to pass the sin tax bill on November 19, so deliberations on the 2013 budget can begin on the November 20.
Read this, as earlier posted on this thread: Cigarette prices in the Philippines now world's second-lowest - InterAksyon.com. Note the price of cigs in VN vs. PH.
Ironic how when it comes to progress, we like to compare ourselves to Singapore, etc. But when it comes to a law that will benefit our health system, why even bother to compare vs. VN, Cambodia and Laos?
Btw, I disagree that higher prices will kill the tobacco industry. There are a lot of smokers who can very well afford the price increase. Besides, meron na bang grupo ng mga maninigarilyo na nagrereklamo about any price increase?

People will still buy cigs, even if they become more expensive. If a stick becomes two pesos instead of one... who's going to complain? (unless they're two pesos already...)
People will simply smoke fewer sticks or keep on buying them at the same rate and skimp on other stuff. Smoking is habit forming, just like gambling. And smokers, like gamblers, will pay any price to take another hit.
(No offense to smokers on the board...)
Same thing happened with softdrinks. We switched to cans and the price went up. People still buy lots of canned softdrinks.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
