True, we can't expect the aide to be able to save him given those circumstances unless he was a swimmer, marine or Navyman who's trained to keep his bearings under such duress. The job of the close-in aide is really to stand between his boss and a bullet.

As things are more clear now and the body has been recovered, it seems the aide was just lucky he came to immediately after the crash and was at the right place to exit the plane immediately. The only way the Secretary could have been saved given he was unconscious was if there was a team of divers right there and then.

Tingin ko nga hindi msyado na-train sa mergency situation like this yung aide kaya instinct niya is to svae himself nung nakita niya na wala na si Sec. Robredo sa tabi niya. IMO its normal and understandable. Palubog na kasi plane eh. Mamya hindi pa siya ganun kasanay lumangoy or sumisid kaya yung kaba eh naiiba. Hope this accident can help future aide in being more prepared in emergency situations. just my 2 cents...
