if we treat the renegade group as merely bandits with guns then by all means. but the problem will surface in the middle of this ramadan season. I believe the clamor from local and international muslim communities will put our govt. in a bad light.

the thing is we wouldn't want to be attacked during X'mas Vacation or during observance of Holy Week would we?

It doesn't matter if its ramadan, christmas or easter. Just get them all and make sure they never threaten any town or community in mindanao again.

The problem is we have been treating these kind of groups as if they have a real political agenda. Unfortunately, they are just over-hyped bandits.

As for retribution, as if Hilter suspended his troops' attacks during World War 2 just because they were celebrating Christmas. It is high time to take the war against these bandits all the way.

If it's a general massacre of the MILF people here are asking for, then that's what will give an excuse for an international "peacekeeping" force to butt in.

Once that happens, the Philippines would lose control of its destiny. Advocating a massacre would be playing right into the MILF's hands.

Sakay naman tong media at government sa ramadan. Look at what happened in davao now, bombing on the first day of ramadan.

I grow up in south cotabato and only left there when I was 30, alam na alam ko ang likaw ng mga bituka ng mga yan. It was never about political agenda with them... It's between Islam and other religion.

bad strategic and tactical decision if the government agrees to a cease fire. how many years na natin kinakausap ang mga yan, wala naman nangyayari sa peace talks eh. tama yung decision ni erap dati, one time all out push na to stop MILF.

if ERap had it it his way during his MILF warring days, this would have happened. he had ordered the military to completely go on aerial strafe run on Camp Abubakar with ground support troops doing the mop up "finishing" operations.

during that time I thought Camp Abubakar was sort of a terrorist training camp like the one portrayed in the movie Patriot Games.

little did I know, that Camp Abubakar was a community with muslim women and children, schools, mosques, wet markets, stores, makeshift hospitals and health centers. in other words, it's a full-scale TOWN with even PUVs like tricycles and mini-jeepneys and TERMINALS

it really reveals what sort of character our former President is.

by the way, the strafe run mission was not cancelled in 1998-2000. when the Phil. Military got there, the place was a ghost town. the MILF with their families and the sick left hastily like refugees of war, only clutching what they can carry as of the moment.

as a military strategist or a member of the opposite side, this looked and sounded so good. victory too bad nga lang, there was less action.

but as humans, only one thing will best describe if ever ERap and his military strafed Camp Abubakar on time -> genocide.

Doubt pretty much if the conflict with the MILF will warrant the intervention of an international peacekeeping force. The conflict areas in Mindanao is pretty small and the casualties are not in the thousands as what you may expect from genocide.

This is one instance where government should practice the art of doubletalk. They should publicly state that it will generally observe Ramadan, and will not mount offensive actions, but do quite the opposite. After the Ces Drilon incident, is there a reporter stupid enough to accompany our troops on the actual battlefront?

Talking about waging war publicly during such a holy month for Muslims may turn off a lot of Islamic states, which may move them to give overt/covert aid to the rebels
