Relatives of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos are free to pursue their comeback in Malacañang, but the public should check their track record, a Palace official said Thursday.

During a press briefing, Presidential Communications Operations Office head Herminio "Sonny" Coloma Jr. said it is well within the rights of a Marcos clan member to run for president.

"Nasa batas naman po iyan kung sino ang pwedeng kumandidato, ano ang kwalipikasyon. Basta po naaayon sa batas at pumasa sa Comelec [Commission on Elections] ang certificate, kalayaan naman po nila na lumahok sa proseso ng halalan ng bansa," Coloma said.

On Wednesday, former First Lady and incumbent Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda Marcos said her family's return to Malacañang "would be a great help" in her "vision" to help more Filipinos.

She added that her son, Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr., is "qualified" to run for president in the 2016 presidential polls.

Senator Marcos had earlier said he will participate in the next elections, but has not decided yet on which position to seek. He also admitted that "in all likelihood," he will be seeking another term as senator.

Track record

Coloma, however, urged the public to scrutinize the track records of the Marcoses to see if they can continue programs started by President Benigno Aquino III.

"Kailangan tingnan ang kanilang track record. Kung sila ay may track record na iyan o sa ibang larangan ang kanilang track record. Sa bagay na iyan, ang taong-bayan ang pinakamainam sumagot," he said.

Former President Marcos placed the country under martial law rule from 1972 to 1981—a period marked by human rights abuses.

President Aquino's father, Benigno Jr., was assassinated in 1983 as he arrived in Manila, a crime widely blamed on the Marcos presidency.

President Aquino's mother, Corazon, replaced Marcos as president after the EDSA People Power Revolution in 1986.

Sa last presidential election, yeah, PNoy may not be the best fit (Gordon and Gibo -kaso aso ni GMA si Gibo eh)but he is the best choice because of what he stands for. When the past 3 presidencts are all embroidered in corruption charges, a "daang matuwid" alternative would be the best choice.

He is not the best president we ever had (that is still Ramon Magsaysay's throne at least in a genuine persperctive),and there may be a better president along the way. But from 2010-2016, deal with it, siya binoto eh. La na kayo magagawa. Popular vote lang due to sympathy, yes naman but if that is what fate dealt us, mas okay na yan kesa si Erap ulit or even Villar. Tangina naman kung iisipin niyo na yun ang nakalbalik sa puwesto despite his CRIMINAL conviction.

Get real, as the 2010 election sa mga posibleng manalo, sino pa ba pipiliin niyo? Parang may magagawa pa tayo. Mas madami bobotante eh. 4 years na, move-on.

IMHO, ayaw ko rin naman ma-impeach si Pnoy. Una sa lahat, ayaw ko ng kaguluhan, lalo lang babagsak ang ekonomiya ng Pilipinas (besides Pnoy got the numbers in the Congress), it's possible but not probable scenario. So, it's up to the next government if they like to put Pnoy in court. Pangalawa, ayaw ko rin kay Binay which is the VP next to Pnoy. Patapusin na lang ang term ni Pnoy for the sake of the Philippines.

Ang gusto ko lang kay Pnoy ay yung AFP modernization na ginagawa ng kanyang government, saludo ako sa kanya about this.

AFP modernization, higher BIR and BOC collecton, less foreign debt, LESS corruption kasi dati presidente pa lang tiba-tiba na ninanakaw eh. Yeah, patapusin niyo na lang. 2 taon na lang si abnoy daw na PNoy. Wala naman kayo magagawa eh.

Kahit lahat nang galit kay PNoy tumabling at magluhod frm Aparri to Jolo na mapatalsik siya, neknek niyo. Buhok niyo na lang matitira pagdating sa Jolo hindi pa yan na-impeach at hindi yan makukulong after maging presidente. Kasalanan niya lang panot siya at noynoying.
