Just wanna up this thread to help keep the search for justice of the Maguindanao Massacre victims alive. It's been almost three years and after the arrest of GMA (along with her multiple hospitalizations) and impeachment of X-CJ Corona, there still is no real progress on this case unless you're an Ampatuan (where the witnesses are dropping like flies, like in the case of the brothers Dominguez). We do hope the current admin hammers down on this with the same might that they showed in the recent Impeachment Trial of the CJ.

Another proof that there are no permanent friends or enemies in politics, just permanent interests!

In a radio interview thin morning with Toto Mangudadatu, the Ampatuans mentioned in the report were enemies of Andal Sr., who wanted to run against them a decade ago and was shot in the face. Media should have checked their facts first before shooting their behinds....

Sadly, this case is moving very, very slow. I guess people feel that if PNoy could railroad the ouster of Corona, he could push this case as well.

I watched "The Maguindanao Masacre" on History Channel last night. There's an interesting comment there -- that the journalists were used by Mangudadatu as human shields and the journalists were unaware of that. It might have come out previously. But first time I heard about it.

The only consolation here (the same with Gloria Arroyo and the 3 Senatongs ) is that all suspects are under custody. Imagine living sa isang palasyo with all the amenities at your disposal then all of a sudden eh nasa isang kwarto ka na lang kung saan mas maganda pa yung maids quarters nyo...
Ang Justice system sa pilipinas ay sobrang bagal. We dont know if justice will even be given sa kasong ito (unti-unti ng pinapatay ang mga witnesses di ba?).

Ano na nga pala nangyari ke Corona? Yes he was ousted, pero nakasuhan ba? He and his family still enjoys the fruits of his dirty works.

A key defendant in the worst political massacre in the Philippines, which saw 58 people murdered, has been freed on bail, the court trying the case said Tuesday.

The court granted the provisional release of Sajid Ampatuan on Monday, ruling against the government which wants him kept in prison along with more than 100 other suspects in the 2009 slaughter.

"He was released yesterday. He is free to travel anywhere in the Philippines," Alan Moral, an official from the regional court handling the case told AFP. He is, however, barred from leaving the country while on bail.

Moral said the defendant had paid an 11.6 million-peso ($262,000) bond to be freed on bail.

    Andal Ampatuan Sr. is dead

    July 18, 2015 12:00am

Andal Ampatuan Sr. passed away on Friday night, the family lawyer Ferdinand Topacio said in a statement.

"It is with deep sadness that I announce to the public that former Maguindanao Governor Andal Ampatuan Sr. has passed away a few minutes ago," Topacio said.

"Details of his death are still sketchy. What is confirmed is that his mortal remains will be treated in accordance with Islamic customs," he added.

"The family requests the media and the public in general for privacy and respect in this time of bereavement."

Andal Sr. has been in the National Kidney and Transplant Institute, a government hospital in Quezon City, since June 5 because of liver cancer and was transferred to the intensive care unit on Monday.

Andal Sr. was one of the primary suspects in the 2009 Maguindanao massacre, which caused the death of 58 civilians.

READ: Maguindanao Massacre -- How it Happened / Timeline: Maguindanao massacre

During the terms of his elders in local politics, Andal Sr. had either been a policeman, a councilor or in the municipal payroll as "confidential aide" to local executives of Maganoy (now Shariff Aguak) town.

Ampatuan Sr. was a councilor in February 1986 when the Edsa People Power overthrew Marcos.

Eyeing for the top local post, Ampatuan Sr. allied with the more politically well-known Matalam and Pendatun families in a bid to penetrate then Interior Secretary Aquilino Pimentel Jr., who signed appointments of officers in-charge (OIC) appointments for local posts.

Appointed mayor in 1986, Ampatuan Sr. became undefeated in three consecutive local elections---1988, 1992 and 1995. In 1998, he trained his eyes on the gubernatorial post, but the Lakas-NUCD favored then incumbent Maguindanao Governor Zacaria Candao.

Ampatuan then pitted and supported another local politician in a one-on-one fight against Candao in the 1998 elections. The "close fight" then between Maguindanao Vice-Governor Midpantao Midtimbang and Candao, enabled former Mayor Ampatuan to "politically gauge his chances of winning against Candao" the 2001 gubernatorial election---which he did.

In the 2004 presidential race, he threw his full support to Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who dominated the polls in most of Maguindanao.

It started his close alliance with Arroyo, especially so that he managed to deliver a win for the latter despite actor Fernando Poe Jr.'s popularity among Maguindanaons.

In the 2007 midterm elections, Ampatuan Sr. again proved he was a political figure to contend with when he delivered a 12-0 win for the Arroyo government's Team Unity senatorial slate. With a report from Nash Maulana, Inquirer Mindanao/TVJ
