Using a slang term does not necessarily equate to discrimination unless the origin of that word is related to discrimination, e.g. the word "nigger"

I have a pure chinese gf, and she just laugh off the term. In my experience I first heard of the term when my college bud got into an argument with a pedicab driver and the second time is from our company pahinante.
So I think the term is more prevalent in the lower social class.
