Survey says GMA most corrupt president

    Tuesday, December 11, 2007 11:22 PM

MANILA (AP) - President Gloria Arroyo was picked the most corrupt leader in the country's history by the largest number of people in a survey released Tuesday -- even more than chose late dictator Ferdinand Marcos, who allegedly stole billions of dollars during his 20-year rule.

The nationwide survey by independent pollster Pulse Asia found that 42 percent of Filipinos believed Arroyo is the country's most corrupt leader, compared to 35 percent for Marcos.

The survey was conducted Oct. 20-31 as the government was embroiled in a bribery scandal involving a national broadband contract with a Chinese company. Arroyo was later forced to cancel the deal.

There was no immediate comment from Arroyo.

The question here is where and who paid for this survey. And it is indeed sad to show how dumb the editors of PhilStar are to put it as their headline.

Di ako pabor kay GMA pero if she is the most corrupt president, then where is her boracay mansion? her Swiss accounts? the highway named after her? the millions of pesos stashed in an anonymous account? her closet full of shoes?

To me, it is totally irresponsible for Inquirer to print a headline like that which reflects only the opinion of a few thousand of Filipinos. But then again, that is freedom of speech, something they said is being suppressed nowadays.

its not that pinoys have short memory eh. its "how much"

    talagang money talks.

corrupt na kung corrupt si pgma but not na lalagpasan nya pa si macoy or even fvr for that matter.

I believe that nobody can top FM when it comes to corruption. Talagang sagad to the bones ang paka-corrupt ni Macoy. Early estimates place at US$ 5B ang nakurakot ng Marcos family. Naging banner story din ito ng Newsweek before (back when we were still subscribing).

The fact that over 42% of Filipinos polled say na mas kurakot pa si Pandak speaks volumes. Actually, may pinalaya pa nga!) So she has no right to complain. Magpakulong siya, at huwag niyang i-pardon!

Well, i read somewhere that former Sen. Osmeña commissioned the survey. Now you know where his loyalties lie.

Agreed she's corrupt, but i don't believe that she's the most. Survey is a survey, it can be manipulated. People tend to forget so easily.
Inquirer run its stories like tabloids. Un front page lang ang dameng magandang iheadline, but then the editor chose this. Puro commercialism. Tsk!

It's not a manipulation... but it's perception... and Malacanang is right that perception isn't truth.

What can you do? Most people don't believe that Erap or FVR were corrupt...

eto lang masasabi ko sa inquirer, they just take advantage of the still uneducated masses. kasama ko sa gym iba dyan. hindi mo aakalain ng mga activists, kasi puro pinaguusapan travel, fine dining, vacations, meso theraphy etc. etc. so yan lang talaga kelangan raket to afford those things.

the way I say it, they're corrupting the minds of the weak not to work and to have despair

Granted that all administrations had their share of gross corruption, what we can be sure of
    - from the psywar and showbiz standpoints - are:
    1. GMA's political infowar machinery does not meet the demands of the info age
      (no www during FVR admin; he topnotched the psyops course in Ft.Benning);
    2. her showbiz quotient is in an all-time low
(she's a nerd after all, Erap is still acting, and Nora Aunor has gone down the tubes).

    My two takes on perception.

I don't think that news merits front/banner page material. First, perception wise, GMA might be corrupt but she does not have 20 years to amass such wealth. Bigyan mo pa ng another 12 years baka puwede pa matalo si macoy or bigyan mo pa siya ng mas maraming kaibigan at baka matalo din niya si Erap.

With regards to that survey, well, did it serve anything to us pinoys except to promote a certain agenda? Will that survey give us something new to be proud of as pinoys?

Expect the Inquirer to print such kinds of news in their headlines in the coming days. I've stopped reading this two years - since I don't see any balanced views and some positive news from them. It is critical, negative, and biased. Yan ang culture sa PDI.

I'm actually a fan of Ramos if only for that fact:

    He was one clever guy.

Ramos's administration was punctuated by scandals involving millions of dollars and big rollers... the selling off of government assets (a trend continued by Arroyo)... and the now infamous power outages and traffic...

But "Steady Eddie" took it all with a grin and a big "thumbs up". He was a master at manipulating the media and putting a positive spin on things.

What does Gloria do? Whenever she's cornered, she reacts with bluff and bluster. She's abrasive, combative, and manages to make foes out of allies, again and again. She doesn't hide her emotions well, and her handlers manage to make huge muddles out of small issues... the Manila Peninsula incident being the latest blunder, PR-wise, that the administration has performed... they had an ironclad grip on the situation, and they managed to resolve it quickly, but then they went overboard like panicky little children emptying a bottle of bleach on a ketchup stain.

In terms of the ability to put a good spin on things, PR-wise, Gloria is almost as bad as Erap. But she's got a sharp legal mind, or at least, sharp legal advisors, and that's helped her stave off impeachment again and again, and that, plus tremendous bribes for Congress, helps keep her in power... but only just... as soon as the House Majority sees an out from the situation, they'll probably throw her to the dogs...

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

..............or the IMF forecast for RP. Makes you wonder if that paper is a glorified tabloid. At least a tabloid doesn't pretend to be a decent newspaper.
