I watched Duterte's recent speech, just to be sure that the "EJK is my only sin" comment was not taken out of context, as most ka-DDS would quickly argue. I watched the hour-long tirade, and tried to keep an open mind about it.

But all I heard and saw was an old man rambling. He really did say that the EJKs were his only sins. Nothing out of context there. None of the spins that Panelo or Roque said post-facto even made sense in the context of what he said.

It was clearly a slip of the tongue.

The entire speech reminded me of the days when I had to listen to old men tell stories about how good they are and about how much the people they hate suck. It was like listening to a sick, old lolo tell his repetitive stories over and over again while downing several glasses of scotch.

There were moments when he'd digress so badly and his voice would trail off. Then it seems like his wits would make a temporary return and he'd suddenly make a loud statement with emphasis. All of which are not connected at all to the topic at hand. The usual LP bashing, anti-poor remarks, and his favorite Joma Sison. He did try to read his prepared speech...for about 30 seconds. Then back to rambling again.

If you have lots of time and want to our Dear Leader speak firsthand, here's the link:

    Facebook

The statement comes at the 1 hr 7 mins mark. Listen to what he was saying before and after - he wasn't joking nor was it taken out of context.

Pinagtatawanan lang mga pinoy, masyadong mabagal gumalaw sa business, sigurista. Sila if they think it's a good deal sunggab agad wala ng isip isip.

Kaya they will take over sooner than later pag binago pa ba pwede na 100% own ang foreigner. Ubos lahat dito.

    Not all.

I met some good mainland chinese businessmen and they are very polite. Hehe

We however, filipinos of chinese descent, nasanay na kami sa western way of doing business.

    yeah friend hehe

we understand chinamen think differently coz they weren't brought up with the same judeo-christian and western style education that we local chinese went thru

ung ethics ng chinamen iba -- they have a singlemindedness to make money and they have no concept of rules that we non-mainlanders are governed by

for example intellectual property -- we all know that patents and copyrights were invented to incentivize creative people to do what they do for the benefit of society at large (a government that protects people's ideas, inventions, discoveries etc will have a vibrant and innovative economy)

it seems chinamen don't have any concept of that... among other western concepts (like falling in line)

that's why they are the way they are

so etong pinsan ko he came up with a question we ask ourselves when faced with a business decision whether to go ahead or not -- "what would a chinaman do?" (parang ung conscience guide "what would Jesus do?")

it doesn't mean we abandon our ethics

it means "hey dude lakasan mo loob mo"

    hehe

I have 3 staff in China (Shanghai and Beijing). The youngest works efficiently and very respectful. The 2nd pretends that she is always busy, works a lot of overtime and keeps asking for salary increases and promotion. The oldest (of retirement age) falsified her records so she can stay longer in the company.

Very true! We as westernised chinese businessmen, have this concept of professionalism unlike those from mainland. hehe

Even hongkees are easy to deal with, taiwanese rin.

Not sure if it's because mukha akong may pera or mukha akong walang manners 🙂
