Russia and especially China can only offer loans, not investments in factories. Why should they when they suffer from their own unemployment and have cheap laborers?

Pero in fairness yung investment ng china sa africa mukhang magbubunga na. They are predicted to have the highest growth in upcoming years dahil na setup na ng china ang infra.

If you think about it, doon talaga siya sa easy way out.

Well Politics di mawawala yan, it's everywhere and sa Pinoy culture, di nakakapagtaka.

Well tumamlay talaga forums since the introduction of FB groups. It's accessible and halos lahat may FB account. The most important thing is it's Free. Unlike forums you have to pay for the domain space annually kaya madami din forums na nag shutdown. Sayang yung mga info doon especially the DIY sections dami mo mapupulot.

I still prefer the old forums style. Sa FB kasi mejo nakaka allergic most of the time.

Naloko na.... in short hinihintay pa ng China pirmahan ni mr pres and full waiver ng pinas over west philippine sea.

mahirap din mag tiwala sa tulong ng china lalo na yan ang laking amount kasi for sure may kapalit yun unlike Japan and EU.

There's some talk that PH is running out of laborers for construction/infra...that would be the perfect excuse for China to assign its own suppliers, contractors, and workers to the projects it's supposed to fund. Kikita sila sa interest, kikita uli sa pagsupply ng materyales at labor, at posible pang makakuha ng disputed islands.

    It's not a bad deal...for China.

    i said this before

    China has overcapacity issues

So they're exporting their overcapacity to keep their companies running and people employed

    that's really the plan

China govt #1 goal is preservation of power

threat to govt is social instability i.e. lots of unemployed people can cause social unrest

keep that in mind and you'll understand why China does what it does

they build big things to keep people employed

they built entire cities that are currently uninhabited

now they're building in Africa, central Asia etc

So China lends foreign countries RMB to build infrastructure

No problem with currency acceptance since Chinese companies and workers naturally accept RMB as payment

The debtor countries need to pay rmb loans plus interest so where are they gonna get extra rmb?

    They have to earn it

Sell products to China and accept rmb as payment

    Or borrow it

    Issue rmb denominated bonds

    What?

The Philippines will issue bonds denominated in CHINESE CURRENCY?

    Oh yeah

Treasury: Investors ‘enthusiastic’ about PH's upcoming panda bond sale | Inquirer Business

Potential investors expressed enthusiasm about the Philippine government’s upcoming panda bonds issuance during the roadshow held in Shanghai, China late last month, National Treasurer Rosalia V. de Leon said.

“We met about 13 potential investors, a combination of banks and asset management corporations. Basically, they are very enthusiastic about the growth narrative of the Philippines. It’s the first time that we’re doing this on an investor roadshow, on a non-deal basis, anticipating that eventually the Philippines would make its first footprint in the panda market,” de Leon told reporters recently.

Panda bonds are yuan-denominated debt paper issued in China by foreign governments or companies.

The Philippines will be the first Asean country to issue panda bonds.

“They are enthusiastic about what would be the pricing, the tenor, and how it will also provide some liquidity support. The Bank of China will also be there to provide that kind of liquidity,” de Leon added.

Finance Secretary Carlos G. Dominguez III had said they plan to issue $200 million in three- to five-year panda bonds by October or November.

“We were telling them that right now, we are getting internal and external approvals, (such as) from the People’s Bank of China,” de Leon said, referring to the mainland’s central bank.

The Monetary Board, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ highest policymaking body, already approved the planned panda bond issuance in principle.

“We will have continued discussions with them (investors), particularly on the emerging economic developments. They are waiting for the results of the Train (Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion) and also our financing for the ‘Build, Build, Build’ program. We have established that kind of consultative relationship with the investors,” according to de Leon.

and re the south china sea

why doesn't anyone call it what it is?

the media keeps calling those artificial islands artificial islands

    so what are they really?

what does China have only 1 of that the US has many of?

    aircraft carriers

So instead of building aircraft carriers, China built those artificial islands

those are permanent stationary Chinese aircraft carriers in the south china sea

why the hell are people surprised runways are built on those artificial islands?

oh no China's gonna put fighter planes on them

    duh

that was the plan all along

^those artificial islands are technically unsinkable aircraft carriers, but those runways can be disabled

there used to be only two countries with operational runways in spratleys: taiwan & philippines. now there are 3 nations with runways

and we are in danger of losing our only aircraft carrier
