Fear, blame and distraction: Pro-Duterte vloggers echo China line on West Philippine Sea | Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines — While tensions between Manila and Beijing over the West Philippine Sea have long been a core issue in international diplomacy and defense, the conflict has also spilled over into the digital space—with some Filipinos pushing Chinese-aligned narratives online.

A Philstar.com analysis identified six vloggers—Boss Dada, Banat By, Bisdak Pilipinas, Pambansang Loyal, Coach Oli, and Brother’s Travellers—who have amplified defeatist views on the Philippines’ claims in the West Philippine Sea.

These influencers, many of whom are known supporters of former President Rodrigo Duterte, have been promoting these narratives through monetized YouTube content viewed by thousands.

Duterte himself has publicly advanced such defeatist narratives, and many of his affiliated vloggers have continued to echo these messages even after his term ended.

Two Chinese vessels collided with each other while they were trying to stop a PCG vessel. But the irony is, the PCG even offered medical assistance after the fact.

Talk about egg on their faces.

SeaLight | Embassy Echo Chamber: How Beijing Directs Its Propaganda Network in the Philippines

On January 8th, China's new Ambassador to the Philippines Jing Quan summoned executives from eight Manila-based, Mandarin-language news outlets to the Chinese Embassy in an event televised by Chinatown News TV (CNTV)

Ambassador Jing Quan expressed his appreciation for the Chinese-language media's long-term contributions to promoting China-Philippines friendship, inheriting and propagating Chinese culture, and publicizing the Belt and Road Initiative. The Ambassador’s remarks inspired the delegates in attendance ... China's development is an opportunity for the Philippines, not a threat ... The attendees expressed that they would, as always, cooperate closely with the Embassy, carry forward the tradition of patriotism and love for the homeland found in Chinese media professionals, and act as a bridge and bond.

Why can’t we set aside our differences with China for the sake of the economy?

Europeans are welcoming the Chinese and ditching US. Just look at the Davos forum. And their leaders are planning to state visits to China.

Tapos tayo feeling natin part tayo ng NATO. From our gov’t officials to the ordinary socmed people, parang ginagawang petty na away lang, walang paki sa economy.
