MANILA, Philippines—An official of the Catholic Church wants concerned agencies and television networks to stop airing condom advertisements, saying these ads would encourage greater promiscuity among young people.
“These ads are corrupting the minds and hearts of our young people. And these are being shown in the prime time so the children will be able to watch it,” Father Melvin Castro, executive secretary of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines’ Commission on Family and Life said over church-run Radio Veritas.
“We are appealing to the concerned agency to review ads that respect the young people,” he said.
The priest lamented that such condom advertisements seen on free television have been allowed despite the status quo ante order issued by the Supreme Court suspending the implementation of the controversial Reproductive Health law.
“It only shows that with or without the RH law, they can do everything they want,” Castro said.
“The mere fact that they are able to advertise things like that only goes to show that there’s no need for a law really to push their interests,” Castro added.
Castro also dared advertising companies to make commercials that promote social and moral values.
The CBCP has been one of the staunchest critics of the reproductive health law that would mandate the government to provide contraceptives and reproductive health services to households and communities.

Ban alcohol? No? Ban tobacco? No?
How about FHM? Playboy? No?
How about taxi rates at motels? No?
Ban condoms? Oh yes... they're evil incarnate!
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

What about the multitude of teleseryes focused on adultery and infidelity?
To me, silly moves like this by the local clergy look a lot like desperate attempts to stay relevant.
Personally, I think Pope Francis' initiatives of questioning the Church's antiquated and narrow-minded beliefs is a more effective way to restore the reverence that Catholicism once enjoyed.

February 13th, 2014 09:45 AM #4While we're on the subject of banning stuff...perhaps the church should ban their clergy from
- having ***ual relations with men/women/children, consensual or not
- having kids with their "flock"
- hiding other clergy from the rule of law
- getting involved in pork barrel scams
- wearing prada shoes
- living in luxuryLast edited by badkuk; February 13th, 2014 at 09:48 AM.

Condom ads are a necessity. To remind rapist priests to wear one when they rape a helpless kid.

it is not the job of the church to run the affairs of the state. our country is just too much fanaticized by the church. why of all religions is the catholic church the only one interfering with whether you wear a condom or not? perhaps, if the church should meddle with the state affairs, that they pay their fair share of taxes
