Okay fellas. I'm just curious on your take on this:

    On the Bicycle:
This morning, while I was drinking coffee (Brazilian, tsalap!) here at home and eating my breakfast, I half-heard over the news that MMDA is proposing the use of bicycles for the now motoring public. Since Marikina, they say, has implemented the use of bicycles for travel to work and school successfully, they say thay the townships under Metro Manila should follow suit. They even cited, as examples, Asian countries like China, Cambodia, Vietnam and Japan as countries where workers use bicycles.

My take on this bike thing are these:

    1. I've been to these four countries and people do not use bicycles to go to work if they come from long distances. Most of the workers in these countties that use bikes only live a short distance away from their work.
    2. If the roads here are as safe as Japan, where motorists respect and give courtesy to bike riders and pedestrians, then maybe our Metro folk would be comfortable using bikes.
    3. From what I observed, bicycle theft on these countries are either non existient or minimal, so one can leave his or her bike outside. What weould you think would happen if you leave your bike outside an establishment for the good part of your day? Malamang, manakaw.
    4. As far as Cambodia goes, people there have no choice since that country is poorer that we are, but thet petrol costs 2-3x as much as our petrol here.
    5. Now as far as Chine and Vietnam goes, bicycling is part of their culture and part of their socialist past and present. Besides, I think people there learn to ride a bike first before they are taught how to walk.

    On Gloria (PGMA)

On the same news program (but on my 2nd plate of tapsilog na ), they were talking about the world prices of oil/crude being "now out of our control". On the same new program, they reported the efforts of PGMA to offer the peace pipe to the opposition so that they can work together to stem or soften the impact of the looming oil crisis due to the stratospheric rise in world oil prices. Then, after a few minutes, I heard the comment of Sen. Pimintel saying that "the only way to stop the price of oil from rising and lessen the impact of a looming oil crisis would be for PGMA to step down." WTF?

So, my fellow Tsikoteers, what's your take on these issues/topics?

    nice one.
pero pimentel's argument will actaully work on the masa. kanina while commuting to work, the radio announcer on the AM band suddenly says " grabe na talaga gobyerno natin ngayon, tumataas na gasolina, nong si erap pa, di naman ganon". and i saw the fx driver nodding in agreement
not to sound elitist pero people like these have no concept of the world market and other market forces. para sa kanila lahat ng nagnyayari sa country kasalanan ng current president

post hoc ergo propter hoc :P

    On Bicycle,

I would say it is a noble cause however, given the stature of Filipino people wants to attain, they won't be pedalling to work any time soon. Scooters probably but biking? Nah. However, I did that already for a couple of times when I was working in Makati Ave. and my house was in Kapitolyo, Pasig. It was fun and adventurous.

    On Gloria,

Pimintel is suffering from Parkinson's and Alzheimer's all at the same time. He WAS a respectable politician but now, just another noisy politician who's mouth spews out only garbage talk.

maglagay muna sila ng mga bike lanes sa major thoroughfares bago nila isipin yan. and di bigla-bigla dapat yan. motorists (read: jeepney & bus drivers) will have to get used to sharing the road with them. otherwise, baka puro aksidente lang mabasa mo sa mga tabloids about bikers.

on pimentel, dapat sa kanya mag-retire na gaya ni salonga. i-give up nya na ang hope nya na maging leader pa ng bansa.

Mahirap yata magbisikleta kakapagod yun hehehe. Cguro in some parts of the metro kung mag bibike na lang makakatulong talaga pero not all.

Not much opinion on him.

they should allot side streets for purely bicycle or scooter streets, para from QC to makati, manila, etc etc may safe artery mga two wheelers, problema saten, yung bicycle at motorcycle dumadaan sa major routes pa punta between city, kaya malaki chances ma aaksidente or nakakatakot.

Bat hindi kaya gawin ilang side streets connecting the major cities as purely cycle lanes. this could be a start, sa gradual acceptances ng two wheelers. Usual concern ng pag cycle is yugn safety kaya kailangan i address.

    Dapat meron nito:
    Decicated lane para sa BIKERS
Alisin muna nila Air Polution sa Manila

Kung sa Ayala ang work mo at taga Pasig area ka.. by the time maka rating kasa Makati Im sure sobra na pawis mo..So dapat sa baba ng building ng office nyo may shower room para Fresh ulit bago mag start ng work.

    Problema lang pag tag ulan???

    On Bicycles:
It is a good idea, but not in Metro Manila, imagine peddling away beside smoke belching jeeps, busses, trikes, not to mention abusive drivers. Also think of your health, if you travel less than 5kms it may work but anything more forget about it. Our customer's employee just died two months ago because of exhaustion from riding his bike from home to work and back (He lives in pasig, works in binondo go figure). The answer to the uncontrolled rising of fuel prices should be more efficient mass transport systems.

My father-in-law used to bike his way to work sa Boni, back then sa Antipolo pa siya nakatira. Pinigilan lang siya ng arthritis, and the fact na nakabili sila ng sasakyan. It sounded like a good idea back then, since konti lang ang nakatira sa Antipolo nun therefore konti lang ang sasakyan. Nowadays, marami ka nang kalaban, especially those G-Liner buses recklessly weaving left and right on Ortigas Ave., mga jeepney at taxi na naghahabol ng boundary, at mga trucks na akyat-baba ng bundok.

    on bicycles:
ok yan if they lead by example. one thing i really hate is people asking you to do what they themselves cannot. kung baga, pwede ka lang humirit kung may karapatan ka! otherwise, tumahimik na lang sila! i agree that this would be effective only if you live within 5 kms of your place of work/school, the way there is not that chaotic, and it takes more time to ride a car/jeep to get there than to bike. anything else would be too exhausting, dangerous and in some ways impractical. and the bike lanes in marikina are not really that effective (speaking of those in the sss and parang areas). jeepney drivers still load/unload passengers on it. sometimes it's even convenient for them since they have a space for their 'terminal'. also, cars park on it and on occasions, use it as their passing lanes. another really failed example of a bike lane is the one in the QC circle. ang laki laki na ng nakapintura sa daan dun pa rin dumadaan! at nambubusina pa ng bisikleta! the nerve!!! anyway. i used to bike to and from school before. from teacher's village to katipunan. now i only do it for leisure and sports.

    to pimentel:
    oh please shut up!!!

bikers in marikina don't use the bike lanes... my GF lives in marikina and evrytime hatid ko sya 95% ng bikers ay on the road...WHY??... kasi

1.yung bike lane ginawa sa sidewalk... so pag dating sa bawat driveway eh bababa ng kaunti yung bikelane... so para kang nasa roller coaster...up and down ang ride mo.

    3. also on the subject of driveways, saw one rider almost slammed into a gate, kasi biglang binuksan ng maid dahil papasok na amo nya.... buti nakapreno yung manong

    4. ang mga naglalakad sa sidewalk walang pakialam kahit alam nila na green lane is for biking dun sila naglalakad pag parating na ang mga naka bike, sila pa ang galit.

the whole pinoy community have to learn to respect each other and learn the basics of biking... maraming tsikoteers din siguro ang bikers din dito like me and blackmagic... and we can tell you we've had brushes with irresponsible drivers... talgang pag nasa bike ka tapos you're on the road in the Phils., 50-50 ka palagi.

Philippine Roads not safe for Biking!
