Can we convert our normal diesel engines into TDi's?
Hindi ba TDi means TurboDiesel Injected? Halos lahat naman ng diesel engines ay injected (so solve na tayo sa "i" part). In theory, any engine can be turbocharged.![]()

thanks for the info. all this time i thought the "i" in TDi meant intercooler... yun kasi ang nakikita ko sa mga sticker palagi![]()
Pero kung ganun lang ang definition....how come the Big Horn's TDi makes a real difference in fuel consumption and speed???
So its' intercooled Turbo Diesel na fuel Injected???
TDi? di ba turbo direct inject? direct injection diesel engine with turbo booster? yun ang alam ko but am not sure. first time na na-encounter ko yang acronym na yan e sa VW jetta ata yon -- when they raced a TDi powered jetta or some other VW car against gas engines.
di kaya tdi means turbo diesel intercooler, kulang lang siguro ng c,im not sure though
"i" is common shorthand for electronic fuel injection if i'm not mistaken... hindi yata intercooled ibig sabih nun. i think TDi stands for fuel-injected turbodieselVW uses TDi for some of their turboed models that are not intercooled
VW has them
(TDI)Turbocharged Direct Injection
direct injection has been used for years in trucks. This a noisy process though, as can be hear in Ford Powerstrokes, and thus was not very welcome in passenger vehicles. Because of this most diesel cars used indirect injection. Indirect injection is a process of having part of the explosion happen in the pre-chamber, producing smaller explosions instead of one large one. However this is inefficient, and Audi (division of VW) developed a TDI engine which injects diesel directly into the cylinders, added more sound proofing, swirl-chambers, and a computer that takes engine speed and temperature, air intake and your Volkswagen's current altitude into consideration before delivering the diesel. This combination helped reduce noise, increase performance, increase fuel efficiency, and eliminating the old stereotype that diesels are slow and stinky. This added to the fact that in many places diesel is cheaper than gasoline (sorry, in the US it seems to be a bit more) make it a great engine to have for daily driving. Even performance enthusiasts drive them

the Golf IV version of the racing diesel is now running around
245hp and around 370 ft/lbs torque from a 5 cylinder TDI
:lol::lol::lol::lol:Ah...eh hindi ba - Turbo Diesel Ito

I also remember this rover site mentioning about replacing an 8-cyl gas engine ng rover with a diesel TDi engine....saying that the fuel consumption was lower and yet the power was even stonger than that of the 8-cyl engine even if the diesel TDi engine had a smaller displacement...any comments:?::?::?:
wildthing,
well, unless the 8-cyl gas engine was a real dinosaur, a diesel would very likely have a lower horsepower rating but a substantially higher torque rating peaking at low rpms, kahit mas maliit yung displacement nung diesel. iba talaga yung power characteristics ng diesels to gas (not necessarily better or worse, but just different and more suited to some applications and less so to others)![]()
Wala kasing standard vocabulary/terminology sa automotive world. Tignan mo sa mga brochure ng sasakyan, simpleng shock absorber lang "double-acting telescopic ekek chenelenchenel..." pa ang tawag. Yung hood, bonnet ang tawag sa Europe at kung ano-ano pa.
TDi could mean a lot of things to different manufacturers.
Malamang pare-pareho tayong tama.

corect ka diyan sir otep. acronyms can mean a lot of things. with regards to direct and indirect...
try comparing the noise of 1hdt of toyota land cruiser against
bighorn's 4jg2 engine.
BIG difference!
