Bakit kaya kokonte lang ang mga diesel sedans sa Pinas? For a country suffering from explosive petrol prices it would make all the sense in the world for car makers to bring in their oil burners.

This question excludes SUVs/AUVs/Pickups and other similar vehicles.

Mas smooth pa rin kasi tumakbo yung gas engines. The modern diesel engine is as almost smooth as those gas engines. But! If we still get dirty diesels from our local pumps, then it would be the usual rough running diesel engine.

I don't know if an MB or BMW sedan with a diesel engine, is an exception despite the quality of diesel fuel.

nakakapagtaka din nga. cguro dahil nung last nagkaroon nun, hindi sya masyadong bumenta (boxtype na sentra). at ang diesel inassociate na ng tao na pang dyip, pickup at truck lang. at ang alam pa ng karamihan na ang diesel ay maingay, mausok, manginig at mahal imaintain (which is not true for modern diesel engines). most likely may cost consideration din yun. malaki din siguro yung difference ng price bet. a diesel and gasoline engined car. baliktad pa nga ang nangyari e. lumabas pa yung mga big displacement at big body cars.

wala na rin masyadong difference ang presyo ng diesel (PhP28++) sa gasoline (PhP30++) ngayon e. so parang it won't make sense.

may question nga pala ako sa mga learned auto-gurus. given two automobiles of the same weight, specs and engine displacement: one diesel, the other petrol, which one will have better fuel economy (theoretically)?

Theoretically para sa akin, mas economical ang diesel. This is just a copy of my thread:
This is based between Innova Gas(2.0L) M/T & Diesel(2.5L) M/T. Same variant with PhP 50T difference.(Diesel is PhP 50T more)
I put this in figures for the sake of comparison.
    Let's take these considerations:
No. of years of usage : 5 yrs.
Average km/day : 91.31 kms (based on 100T km in 3 years warranty)
    Average Km/L with corresponding Price/Liter:
    Gas: 9Km/L, PhP 29.50/Liter
    Diesel: 12Km/L, PhP 27.50/Liter
Accumulated Km in 5 years =166,666 Km
    Consumption:
    Gas: 166,666 Km/ 9 Km/L X 29.50 PhP/L = PhP 546,294.09
    Diesel: 166,666 Km/ 12 Km/L X 27.50 PhP/L = PhP 381,943.00

Based on these results, PhP164,351 can be saved on diesel.
Warranty for Innova is 3 years. So, this amount is likely more than enough for 2 years maintenance.

However, to brake the Php 50,000 difference between gas & diesel, the accumulated Km should be approximately 50,704.175 Km.

    Gas : 50,704.175 Km/ 9 Km/L X 29.50 PhP/L = PhP 166,197.01
    Diesel: 50,704.175 Km/ 12 Km/L X 27.50 PhP/L = PhP 116,197.06
    The difference is PhP 50,000.

I really can't say this is accurately correct. But, this approach is based on fuel consumption only. This excludes maintenance, resale value and other things.

Tama ka dyan, bro. With the new E-VAT that will be imposed, price increase on gas will likely more than diesel. Meaning, the difference might jump to Php 3.00 or even 4.00. Anyway, just wait and see.

Actually, the difference in diesel doesn't come down to the price of the fuel, but the fuel-efficiency of the vehicle. Europe definitely has expensive diesel, but diesel cars are popular, as many diesel compacts (such as the Focus 2.0 TDCi) can get around 40-50mpg.

Where you would lose out is on maintenance, as our 'dirty' diesel would definitely cause rough running and necessitate more maintenance.

You can always extract more energy from a gallon of diesel than from a gallon of gasoline. Chamistry yun, ganun talaga.

That's why mas mataas ang km/L ng diesel engines when compared to similar gas engines.

Disadvantage of diesels is the engine itself is more expensive to produce.
