because some countries just had to be different

actually it would have been great if everyone had agreed to a standard way back when they were just figuring out this whole car/road thing. now it's too late because i am guessing it will take billions to reconfigure the road infrastructure of entire countries, not to mention making countless existing vehicles unusable.

sa akin, mas intuitive ang LHD...partly because i'm left-handed (hold wheel with left, shift with right) but mostly because i've never driven anything but LHD

AFAIK mas madaming LHD countries. The US definitely, and then Europe (with the exception of UK). Notice most european cars come out LHD first, then the RHD versions follow later... Some never make it to RHD.

Unfortunately for us, a lot of our cars come from Japan who use RHD, and there are also a lot of very nice cars that never come out in LHD.

Of course, standing out in the midst of the confusion we have the McLaren F1. :praning:

This thing started when man was still using a horse as a means of transportation. Those countries where the horse man sits on the horse of a wagon turned out to be left hand drive while those who's horse man sits on the wagon turns out to be right hand drive.

The reason for this is, the horse whip is commonly on the right hand of the horse man, and if done in reverse, he may not be able to hit the horse or he might be hitting his passenger.

Sometime in 1960's countries who are in continents have agreed to use left hand drive vechicle while those who are in an island did not because they do not have the need for it. Thats why you'll notice that most island countries except those handled by the americans are right hand drive.

Actually, even when people were still walking , may orientation na. Something about being able to draw your sword in some cultures. Yung sa ibang culture hindi ko maalala ang reason. Parating pinapalabas sa cable iyan dati, eh.

all those countries under british empire before (new zealand, australia, indonesia, malaysia, singapore, india, pakistan, hong kong and some middle east countries, etc.) are RHD because england is also RHD country. but there are more countries that are using the LHD direction. even most of the european countries used to have RHD direction. but during the collapse of the british empire, as a sign of their protest to britain, they changed their system to LHD.
