Limited Slip Differential:
A mechanism that limits the speed and torque differences between the two wheels on an axle (or front and rear axles in the case of 4WD/AWD). Limited slip ensures that some power is always applied to each of the wheels, even when one is on a slippery surface. This is the essential element to avoid getting a vehicle stuck in snow or mud.

LSD prevents tire slippage from left and right tires.

I copied some of the post from the other thread and I think it has the right definition.

"An LSD unit acts like a locker wherein the left and right tire are made to spin regardless of traction available to the tires. This is how a "full" locker works. In the case of an LSD, the differential allows some slippage or, more appropriately, a "limited" amount of slip to the tire that has more traction in order it to function more practically in high traction situations. Hence the name LSD."

How to test if you've got LSD on rear differential:
Raise both rear wheels, place trans in neutral, release hand brake (transfer in neutral)
Turn one rear tire and see if other tire spins in the same direction
If it rotates in the same direction, then its got LSD.

Remember to use LSD gear oil only!

LSD. Very useful in rear drive vans especially when backing up steep driveways in the rain. My Besta didn't have one. I was just slipping sideways and going nowhere.

mga sir question lang po sa LSD. as sir jackaroo stated me test regarding sa LSD. eh kaso no time to test po ako .. pwede po bang malaman if me LSD yung ride ko.. 91 Japs Mitsu Pajero 3 Doors with 4D56 Turbo Engine. lahat po ba ng Pajero merong LSD or selected vehicles lang..

marwen::: Hindi lahat meron, mas maganda talaga kung uusisain mo yung sasakyan mo kung meron. Si sir otomatic hindi namin akalain meron palang LSD ride nya until our last trip to Hi-Peak. Mas mainam na rin pong alam nyo kung meron para po kabisado nyo ang kakayanan ng sasakyan nyo. :D

boybi::: As I know of, walang LSD mechanisms ang Safari models. The GU should've been equipped with Rear Diff Lockers. But since tinanggal naman ang 4WD functions nito sa atin, I suppose dinamay na rin ang Rear Lockers ng GU series. Our ride has the manual on/off switch or dial for it.
