i was over at chevrolet alabang having my brakes replaced the other day. was talking to the agents there and i was told a couple of 07 tahoes and an indented suburban is on its way to the PI!! and it will be officially offered next year. i was told that suburban prices will start at 3.5m

the new chevy tahoe and suburban will be powered by the a 5.3 liter v8 with the new AFM (active fuel management) system which like the MDS will shut down 4 of the 8 cylinders when cruising to save fuel.

i have seen one here sa town center.. a white suburban... 8 ang plaka hhhmm...

The 5.3L and 6.0L V8 used in the Tahoe and Suburban has the Active Fuel Management technology. In situations where extra power is not needed like cruising down on flat highways, the engine deactivates 4 of the 8 cylinders to save on fuel. Also, GM will release the Tahoe and GMC Yukon Hybrids with 23-25MPG fuel consumption on a large V8 engine (joined by 2 electric motors). I hope this model will also reach the Philippines.

parang mali yata kung ibebenta pa nila next year yan.... e usually kailangan ng mga politikong nangangampanya ng mga gas guzzlers habang umiikot sa kanilang "campaign trail" this 2007! Plus another set of gas guzzlers pag nanalo for 2008 courtesy of their pork barrel!

It would have been more environment friendly if they just used a Bosch CRDi VGT engine which far far more efficient than a petrol V8. 6L?? come on! a 2.5 or 3.0L CRDi VGT engine could easily do the trick of hauling that oversized ass. Unfortunately, diesel is not widely used in America. It seems, that country still prefers to pollute the planet while Europeans, Asians, Americans (some, mostly intelligent ones) et al are trying to save the planet. Ironically, we see a lot of Hollywood movies portraying USA saving the planet from Aliens Asteroids and whatnot. hehehee.

Imagine the petrol (which is NOT energy efficient btw) needed for takeoff for something that big.

Hybrids aren't a good option either. Aside from being insanely expensive, you'd still be doing the rat race of finding where to dispose the power storage cells when you replace them. I bet, another american company would be put up to manage that. hehehe.

Funny, i found some tahoe videos off YouTube.

Maybe in the Philippines using a 2.5-3L CRDi engine is enough to move a Tahoe but here in the US where most people run over 75mph on the freeway you will get hit by a 18 wheeler before you can get up to speed.
250lbft of torque isn't enough to accelerate a truck that weighs 2.5+ tons without any occupants. As far as diesel not widely used every big rig I see runs on diesel and so do most of the heavy duty fuill size trucks, but we just prefer our diesel to be 5.9L to 7.0L V8's rather than 3.L inline fours.

Have you looked up and checked the condition of the air in the Metro lately? The Philippines isn't exactly the standard by which pollution is measured with unleaded fuel only becoming prevalent in the 90's and with more than 50% of the vehicles on the road not using any sort of anti-pollution devices. Don't even look at the water they pass as drinking water. BTW that jeepney will pollute the air more than that 6L V8. Just my .02 cents.

I see you're from California, your Governor practically sweeped girlie men out there when he made CA the first Green state. I like the way Arnie handles opponents. Great success! (ala Borat). I'm curious though why other states aren't following suit so far (AFAIR).

75mph (120kph) is usually the average city cruising speed here with expected slowdowns on U-turns (genius MMDA Chair BF solved non-moving traffic through these). Spirited driving usually is 160-200kph (not in Manila City though except Roxas Blvd where i was able to hit 190 one evening driving a 2.2L diesel).

Sure, trucks use diesel, that's a given. I'm talking more about SUVs.

7.0L V8 ancient diesel engines sure does work but:

    2.2L I4 CRDi VGT 150hp / 335Nm (chipped: 180hp/395Nm) : 290 ft lb

    2.5L I4 CRDi VGT 170hp / 380Nm (chipped data unavailable): 279 ft lb

    3.0L V6 CRDi VGT 240Hp / 480Nm (chipped data unavailable): 353 ft lb

so, imagine the power of a 4.0L CRDi E-VGT V8.

Given that, i wonder why they keep sticking to petrol guzzlers to haul these very heavy _____ (insert synonyms for junk here. hehehe).

I admit, Metro Manila's air condition isn't that good. Actually, it'll need a lot of work (But that's NOT the topic here). Being a 3rd world country getting raped left and right by developed countries isn't exactly easy. The "govt" here recently signed the Biofuels bill to help ease the pollution a bit, step by step, we'll get there.

Good thing i live in Quezon City.

In other news, countries in Europe and Asia (practically most G countries) are doing the initiative of making things more environment friendly, there's the Kyoto Protocol, RoHS, etc. US and Australia both signed KP but didn't ratify it, negating the agreement they agreed to. (LOL!)

Oh yes, here we go again.Everybody else in the world is doing the right thing. But not America! Very strong words you have there. Be careful before you end up having your foot in your mouth. Next time I'll visit Asia (China, Thailand, etc) to enjoy their fresh unpolluted air.
