but the real question is... ano nga ba talaga alternative sa mga jeepney?

pwede if you build things from the ground up
like a brand new city with a transport system that only uses buses and subway system
bawal puj, tricycles, pedicab
buses operated by the govt. monthly salary ang driver. limited number of buses. get on and off at bus stops only

^ Kapag nawala jeepney, yung mga motorists like us lang matutuwa. The rest, rally na ng rally. Kung sabagay, they can't see the overall advantage of not having jeepneys at all. A 'greener' environment, less chaotic road encounters & less noise pollution.
For a tomas morato-timog-kamuning travel, let's say 2-3 coaster buses lang. Pero dun lang sila, they have designated drop-off & pick-up points. Nobody will stop unless they've reached their drop-off points.
After all, other people lived without jeepneys, why can't we?

May 17th, 2012 04:08 PM #176this all boils down to planning (i.e. small roads where only jeepneys and tricycles can be accommodated)

Convenience taken at the expense of us motorists. Kahit saan pwede magpara kahit nasa gitna ng kalsada and almost all of the time there are no signal lights or brake lights to speak of.
Only a few petot more than the standard jeepney fare, mas mabilis sa jeepney at naka-aircon pa. Same goes with passenger buses.
Count out the tricycle drivers, mga peste din sila.

ya tamad kasi ang pinoy mag lakad. blame it on the climate
kaya kahit saan may masasakyan
kahit yung pwede lakarin gusto sumakay nalang
kaya may tricycle kuliglig pedicab. meron demand eh... so meron supply

The best alternative to the Jeepney would simply be to replace them all with more efficient, newer L300 FBs, Hyundai Porters and Kia KC2700s.
More efficient engines. Cleaner (well... I don't know about the L300...)... and safer.
If we want locally made jeepneys to reach even the low levels of sophistication that these FB-style vehicles possess, the only way is to ban the jeep and raise the fares to a level that will encourage businessmen and operators to invest in newer vehicles.
As it is... with the ultra-low fares of jeeps... lugi ka if you buy brand-new. Only way to achieve a quick ROI or even break even is to buy a secondhand POS made thirty years ago which has been around the block a million times.
Look at what happened to the PhUV. Even if they could get it out at 450k back then, there was no market. People who are looking at rudimentary transport like that are more likely to go for decade old secondhand Japanese diesels.

Fiberglass... aside from the health risks from the fibers (same risk you get from cigarettes... the fibers can puncture your lungs) and resins... fiberglass degrades with exposure to heat and UV. The strength and impact resistance goes down over time. It's a good replacement for some of the steel used, but you still need a frame underneath it, anyway...
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
