imho, pag sira vtec solenoid mo, di mo mararamdaman ang biglaang acceleration at maririnig yung vtec roar pag lumagpas na sa 4500 rpm.

you should know by driving it. i doubt it is broken though unless a sensor is misreading which might cause it to not engage.

it relies on the speed sensor, vtec solenoid, water temp sensor and oil pressure sensor.

or you can also install a vtec light to determine if and when your vtec kicks in. pwedeng-pwede i-diy. basta basically ang concept niya is whenever the vtec is activated, the light turns on as well sa akin mga 2800 rpm tsaka nag-ki-kick in ang vtec

Depends on the engine. For DOHC engines, 5.5k rpm yata. According to the gurus at HCP, ~3.5k rpm ang for SOHC 1.6 engines. But for my 97 Accord (F22 SOHC VTEC engine), 2.2k rpm lang, VTEC na. (I have a DIY VTEC LED indicator installed, which lights up when VTEC is engaged).
