bro i know a shop at sikatuna village who sells surplus bmw engines. If your familiar with the place it's near camp karingal name of the shop is "Kyle Kar Care Center" just look for ricky chua. Lots of bmw parts there specially for e34 and e30's. Recently bought a manual tranny for my e36 320i, they also do engine swaps. I don't recommend buying an m50b25(dohc 24v 2.5l non vanos) for ur car coz medyo malakas sa gas, if u were to ask me i'd stick with the m20(sohc 12v non vanos) which is easier to maintain. 224k for the repair? an e34 front cut cost only 160 to 180k estimate ko lang pero lam ko mas mababa pa.

At that price, just stick it with a jap engine. Exterior lang naman titingnan ng tao e. they wont pop your hood and say, hey that's not a BMW engine!

Not worth it na gastusan pa rin ng BMW engine, IMO.

that idea also crossed my mind.. put in a Japanese rear-wheel-drive engine (like an RB24 from a 1988 Nissan Cefiro) or even one of those 4K or 12K engines the requirement only seems to be that it be rear-wheel drive.

but part of the reason for driving a BMW is the rear wheel drive and the straight-six engine. take that away, and you have nothing..

and as theveed said, even if it's a BMW, it's a pretty old BMW. so the prestige level isn't that great. tapos lalagyan mo pa ng 4K engine... nag BMW ka pa.. :P

Yeah but practicality dictates that it's not intelligent to buy a very expensive engine for an old car. Unless that car can be resold for like a million bucks.

Maybe you can just sell it and get an E36 or E46.

Bossing, kung gas lang ang concern, pretty much the same ang laklak ng m20 sa m50. Consider naman na yung M20 is a '60s era engine... Btw, sa tono ng post ni sir jobert parang di naman concern ang fuel expenses.

Sir M2, mga E34M20 cooling system di pa yung maselan na kalokohan na mahahanap mo sa mga BMW today.

From kwento ni sir jobert, it seems na nag-warp na yang head nya, pati na rin siguro yung block may crack na (every 3 days top-up?!). Better to get a new engine, and therefore, why stick to the slow, old M20? Yun lang, di ako sure kung iba mounting ng M50.

IMHO lang, the aesthetic appeal of the E34 is such that one would never let go of it.

please don't stick a japanese car engine in a bimmer. if you want to do that, just junk the car and buy an accord or camry.

as someone already said, it's the engine and powertrain that make the bimmer what it is. i also imagine that it will be hugely difficult and expensive to frankenstein all the electricals, electronics and mountings for a finished product that imho will probably run like crap.

i would first try to source a new lump from a local specialist. failing that, i would imagine that you could find something that would work from taiwan, HK, singapore or japan....the e34 is a pretty common car as far as luxury autos go.

I don't think a Jap engine will work on a Bmw because the computer won't recognize it or something. If you want the value of your car in that condition just deduct the cost of the repairs from the normal selling price of the car.

Come to think of it, it's the E34 that caught my attention to BMW as a kid. I liked it since seeing it in this old movie, Ronin.

I actually dreamed to have one once. But seeing the gasoline prices now, the only 5-series i'll be getting at this time is a diesel one like 520d. I can imagine E34 gulping a lot of gas with its 6-cylinders performance bred engine.

Anyway, i hope you do get an original engine replacement for that. The problem is, it's quite expensive to get it here in our country. I actually can import one but let's see if you can get one locally first.
