    I'm glad.

A good mechanic will know his limits, and frankly tell you about repairs he can do, as well as repairs he can't. The traditional mechanic will be knowledgable on mechanical matters only eg: replacing brake pads, exhaust mufflers, engine supports, belts, shock absorbers, etc.

The present-day mechanic is more of a technician. He can use a PC, laptop, or scan tool to diagnose a fault, as well as use electronic instruments to read / measure voltage, current, resistance, as well as scope patterns; and compare his readings to english factory specs in CD or book format.

After the technician has diagnosed the problem, he can perform the necessary repairs himself, or he can ask a mechanic to replace the faulty part.
